FCCJ nights/weekends 2008

Any suggestions on where to get stethoscope (brand/model) and BP Cuff? I know meridy's website has some but I was wondering if anyone had found other places to purchase these items.

i got my steth from allheart.com. i think they have bp cuffs too, but i'm not sure.

I know this may be off subject, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with this question.
If you graduate with an AS in Nursing from FCCJ - can you then go on to get your BS or do you have to get those additional classes to get your AA before, say UNF will take you? I'm getting conflicting info - plan on talking to counselor @ FCCJ, but with the Fall semester just ending for me, I don't plan on going until Spring term begins.

I think you have to have your A.A. before you can apply to UNF. That is where I started out at (for my pre-reqs), and all the people I know that applyed for their AS program had their A.A.'s. If you go to UNF, they have this thing called OneStop and it has all the BSN nursing info on this lil turny thing right by the door...I know you have to have a chemistry with a lab though, so make sure you have that. I also think I remember a counselor telling me I had to have my AA but I could be wrong. I prefer FCCJ's counselors over UNF's so I would see them if I were you.

Yeah, it figures, the Chemistry class I took was Chemistry for Liberal Arts, and it didn't have a lab with it.... I'll probably have to go back after Nursing school & take another Chemistry class... YIPPEE!!!

Just to let you know, take the chemisty with a lab at FCCJ. I tried at UNF and got a "D" in it but did the liberal arts chemistry like you and got an "A." =) Good luck and we might be in the program at the same time...I am applying for Summer but might not get in seeing as they only let in 72...so I might be with you in the fall! Again good luck!

sorry no idea there, but FCCJ is trying to get approved by the florida board of nursing for a BSN completion program! i first heard about this during fall 2007's orientation. so anyway, they're trying to establish a BSN completion program where you must have a certain amount of clincal hours under your belt... so i think that's about a year of working as an RN; the program itself is supposed to be a year long. not bad.

I heard about that too...on the Times Union website...but it says UNF does not think they need it...but I am really hoping they get one, it would open up so many more doors for everyone because UNF's program is open to its own students as well as FCCJ's soo you can only imagine how hard it would be to get it...I hope FCCJ gets the funding...that would be awesome~!

Kertz81 or any one else that has any info!!!!!

I was wondering if you could give me some insight on the community service they want us to do. I tried to get some information for Miss Emily and she told me to wait until school starts because I have enough on my plate right now with the independent study. I was just wanting to know what they want from us because now that I am on a break from actual classes, it would be easier for me to do now than wait until school starts. Any suggestions or info would be great!!! They only touched on the subject during orientation and didn't really clarify what they want us to do!!! Plus, I thought with it being Christmas time, a lot of not for profit groups are probably needing some volunteer workers.

One more question... Any suggestions on shoes. I went looking for some shoes yesterday and found some nice all leather/white New balance tennis shoes but wasn't sure if those would be ok?

the volunteer opportunity has to be an event approved by the nursing faculty; as far as i know, you can't just go to any random place and volunteer. events that the faculty approved this past semester:

ADA walk

susan g. komen walk

mass casualty thing

there is a bulletin board across from the nursing office that has information about where you can volunteer.

you have to have a minimum of 4 hours volunteer experience for the semester.

and as far as shoes go, i bought a pair of $15 shoes from wal*mart because i wasn't sure if i was going to make it through first semester boot camp slave labor (and didn't want to spend so much on shoes), but alas i did... so i guess i will invest in better shoes now!

Hi, I saw your post and thought I would reply, Im about to start term three just finished finals yesterday. Your white tennis shoes are fine as long as they are all white and as for the volunteer hours you have to do them during the designated semester, you cant do it before or after and youll have to get a supervisor or someone in charge to sign off on your volunteer sheet to turn it. For term one volunteer we went to a health fair at an elementary school and help with school physicals, term two we went to a mass casuality drill and we also had to attend a group meeting for psych we went to an Alcohol Anonymous meeting. Other people did differrent stuff like the light the night for lukemia or the heart walk. Its up to you and they let you know whats going on so you can chose what you want to do.

PS. Study real hard when you get to adult health I a LOT of people flunked out the program due that class this semester.

On the shoes, it is actually really funny how subjective the shoe rules are. This is based on facility and instructor. Some instructors will send you home if there is even a bit of non-white on your shoes, some instructors just say, you need to change your shoes next time. The thought on the tennis shoes is that about the fact of dropping something (like a needle) on your foot. The same goes for the non-medical crocs, stuff getting in the sides. I am starting fourth term and have worn the medical crocs and KSwiss and have never had a single problem with any instructor or facility.

On a side note on the crazy schedule for first term, it does get better!! The material gets harder, but the time commitments lighten up to allow you to see your family for long enough each week so they don't completely forget what you look like!!
