I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!
I think I read a post that everything that is ordered from Meridy's has to be done by a certain day, because I think it is all shipped out at the same time. But, I'm not sure. Also, I think what I'm going to do is wait until my scrub tops come in and then take one with me when I go shopping for the pants, only because I want to make sure the color matches up, you know how sometime whites don't match up, the shade might be off. Just sharing my thoughts, lol. Also, I would suggest everyone read the "Summer 2010 Accepted" thread. I read through it and got some great info. Anyhow, this waiting to find out if we all got accepted is killing me!! :uhoh21::uhoh21::uhoh21: Also, I was thinking those of us, hopefully including me, that get accepted could all meet up before orientation. I saw that the Summer 2010 group that got accepted did that and also that they had someone that was already in the program meet with them and she gave them some great advice. Just a thought, let me know what you guys think.
Very good ideas. I'm going to check out that thread, too, and I think meeting before orientation would be fun It might make orientation a little less overwhelming and foreign if we have some familiar faces.
Maybe we could post in the Summer Accepted thread and see if any of them would be willing to come with and give us the scoop. We could each chip in like 50 cents or a dollar (whatever is appropriate depending on how many people we have) and buy their lunch.
Uuuuuugh, I hope I'm not jinxing myself by planning ahead of acceptance : /
i would love to meet. i didn't think anyone was posting to this thread because i had not gotten any emails. it usually emails me when there is a post. then a o logged on and wow! there are tons of posts. the wait is killing me!!!!! i applied for n/w with 223. i hope i get in!!!! has everyone done there cpr certification?
that's a great score. you're definitely getting in, and i'll be shocked if you don't get n/w. i thought it was weird that i stopped getting email notifications, but, yeah, they're in my spam.

I sure hope so. I am still really nervous! It doesn't help that my husband asks me every day if I've heard anything LOL
yeah!!! :yeah:i just figured out how to set up my fscj email on my iphone. so now if i get an email it will notify me. you know i'm going to be jumping to my phone every time a get an alert!
haha, i know. every time i hear that little 'boop', i'm like omg e-mail!!!!!! but sometimes i get e-mail and don't hear the boop, so i set up fscj account to text me when new mail comes in. and i keep it open in a tab on my browser and frequently refresh it. just in case......not relying on any one means of notification. things fail sometimes. and i need to know as soon as humanly possible!! i checked the time what felt like an hour ago, but turns out it had only been 5 minutes

lol that is sooooo funny. anyone else that is not going through the agony of waiting would probably think we are crazy!
So, 35 pages of "Summer 2010 Accepted" posts, and I read them all, lol. Essentially, the consensus is it's overwhelming, but doable. Focus on PowerPoints and text, not study guides. Time management is key. Keep our eyes on the prize. All terms are demanding, but first term is the hardest.
Someone compiled a list of all FSCJ nursing professors and their ratings on ratemyprofessor.com., and I'm attaching it. It will probably be slightly outdated, but still useful. They recommended printing it out and bringing it to orientation to use when we're bidding for our class sections based on teachers and clinical locations.
Also, n/w classes are supposed to be at Deerwood this coming term. They were supposed to be at Deerwood the Summer term also, but they found out at orientation that they would have to go to North campus. There were a lot of disappointed (to say the least) people. Many chose n/w because of the location. Just want everyone to be prepared. Hopefully, that won't happen again, but it is a possibility : (
The box o' books that's available at orientation was about $880. It includes access codes for the online supplements for each book for all four terms, and the online materials are supposed to be extremely helpful. If you don't buy the box and want to purchase the codes individually, (this part wasn't really clear) it looks like they may be about $100 each or $100 for two. They weren't sure, and no one ever clarified. So the box seems expensive, but if you want the extra help, it actually saves a lot of money over the course of the entire nursing program. From my understanding, these are just the course texts and do not include the references and additional materials that lovinmylayla listed in post# 303 on page 31 of our 'hopeful' thread. Somebody mentioned getting all of them new from Barnes & Noble online with free shipping and an online coupon code she found for a total of about $200.
Lastly, I found this interesting. Somebody recommended an article on allnurses posted by a professor. Search 'dear clinical student.' It made me think about the magnitude of what we are undertaking and how I view a nurse who is taking care of myself or a loved one. Number 10 made me smile and almost tear up, and #11 stuck the knife in and broke it off. The reply posts were mixed. Post #8 second paragraph literally made me laugh out loud.
Oh, and the uniforms from Meridy's run big. People who normally wore a medium were fitting into smalls.
