FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

Published

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

Actually, looking at the checklist, it seems like the titers would be ok to get in advance. The physical as well as the TB screening have to be dated after acceptance letter date. Here is a list of other "stuff" we need:

1. White Uniform - Buy at Meridy's www.meridys.com. Pass code: FSCJ7627. 2 white poplin light blue&royal blue sleeve trim (MER-4001PT-139-WMT). 2 pants (MER-M8327-WMT) OR (MER-M7167-WMT), Khaki Pants, 1 white lab coat (WHS-15000-011), name pins 2 required, white leather shoes

2. Skills Kit

3. Stethoscope and BP Cuff

4. Pocket Protector - fill with 2 ink pens(black), penlight(comes in skills kit), 6inch centimeter ruler, bandage sissors (flat tip), small (6in) hemostat.

The wait is beyond killing me! I so want to get the wait over with. I guess we can find out anytime from now until the end of July. Good Luck Everyone :lol2:

You know, once we get accepted and are knee-deep in the overwhelming amount of material we'll have to deal with each week, we'll be saying how there aren't enough hours in the day.

But, right now.....each day seems to have about 96 hours in it, and the tic-toc of the clock seems to be way slower than normal. :crying2:

Best of luck to you and everyone else as well. May our e-mails come posthaste!!!!!!! :redpinkhe

Sweeeet! Thanks for taking the time to itemize that!!

I would highly recommend buying your white pants locally so you can get the style you want and the right fit. You don't have to have special pants- whatever plain white scrub pants you like will work. Same thing with the khaki pants- you don't have to purchase them from Meridy's. Also, I'm not sure when you will wear the lab coat. If its cold outside maybe? You can't wear it for giving patient care, and we weren't told to wear it over our blue polo and khakis like I heard, so other than cold weather, I'm not sure what the point of it is. If you really need to save money you could skip this item. Also, you don't need the white uniforms until almost 1/2 way through the term. We needed ours for the sterile technique simulation 2 weeks ago- which was the first time it was needed- so week 7 or 8. It only took a few days for most of us to receive our uniforms in the mail.

Also, the pocket protector, hemostat, ruler & scissors can be purchased at the place you get your skills kit, the FSCJ bookstore, etc... I think they're even cheaper than Meridy's.

Thanks for the info! This is great! I think the only drawback is that the passcode must only be for your class. I tried it a few times but it seems to be shut down. But just knowing this stuff is great! Hopefully the letters will come soon and we will all find out one way or the other if we made it. I am SO stalking the mailbox too! I just want to get this over with, one way or the other. Good luck everyone!!!!:D

Hmmm, I entered the passcode with no problem earlier, and just now too. Weird.

The passcode is just for FSCJ so that all your embroideries say the correct school name on them.

Worked for me also. I went ahead and set up an account so as to be ready to order what I have to get from them.

I am checking my e-mail a bit more frequently than normal, waiting for the e-mail so I can get started. As a matter of fact, let me check it again....

....nope, still no news...;)

I have an idea, hopefully you did what I did. The first time I went to copy and paste the code, I included the ". 2" at the end, not realizing that the period was the end of the sentence and the 2 was the quantity of the 'white poplin' item that we would need. So it didn't work for me either at first.

Then I read the post again and realized what I did. Try again, and make sure you just enter 4 letters and 4 digits.

Worked fine!! THANKS SO MUCH!! I'm setting myself up right now.

Thanks a lot! Great info. Money is such a big concern for most of us. Any way to cut unnecessary costs is very helpful and greatly appreciated. And since it's unlikely that we could use financial aid to purchase uniforms from Meridy's, we could wait until the remainder of our aid gets disbursed to us around week 4, when we have a little extra money, to purchase our white uniforms since we won't need them until week 7 or 8.

On a related note regarding scrub pants (those of you who have not had to purchase these before or wear them frequently may be interested), I prefer the "Koi" brand. They have some super cute, more flattering designs, and the draw string on the waistband is wide and thick. I hate those really thin ones because you tie them in a neat and secure bow, and after bending and stooping and pulling on it all day, it turns into a tightly clinched knot that is really hard to get undone, especially when you have to pee really, really badly. And, ironically, even though it is wider and thicker, when tied, it lays flatter against your stomach and doesn't stick out as much and poke against your shirt making that awful, unjustified, exaggerated pooch.

Anyway, thanks again hjhd :redpinkhe
