FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

Published

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

Very through evaluation NurseRatchet! FYI - One thing to keep in mind is that you cannot get a head start on your physical or anything like that because they have to be dated AFTER we get our acceptance letters..... So much for planning ahead! You can, however, order your uniforms etc. If anyone is interested in what kind of things you need (like stethoscope, bp cuff, etc) I have a list from my previous acceptance letters.

My worry is being able to purchase everything without having financial aid yet. I know I am jumping the gun as well, but I try to be prepared! It is going to be hard enough coming up with the money to get the CPR certification :crying2: Having six little girls and a dad who doesn't support them is enough to make me a nervous wreck plus putting all the pressure of the whole getting an acceptance or rejection letter in the mail to the mix is definitely making my hair fall out.

Does anyone know if all the school supplies and uniforms....anything will be able to be purchased with aid funds? This is seriously keeping me up at night.

flladybug78, I'm sorry, I have no idea how financial aid works :( You might want to call the financial aid office and ask how they handle extras like uniforms and books. Good luck :)

What about getting the titers? I already had my titers checked and I have to go back to get the Hep B shot and was going to do my physical then, do I have to get my titers redone after the acceptance date? Also, does any one know if we have to buy all the books for the entire program right away? Someone told me you do and it's $1200.00 for all of them, I'm kinda freaking out about having enough money for all the books at once, plus all the other stuff we have to buy.

You buy the books each term, but term 1 has quite a few books you'll use throughout the program. So it is very expensive, but not near $1200. I think the box was under $700, then there are a few extra required books not in the box. One book I think is absolutely worthless is the Taber's medical dictionary- you can google anything you would need to look up in it. I can't see it being worth the money at all. Another option is to buy your books used. The access codes for Evolve everyone talks about is mainly for the case studies and HESI quizzes, and they give that to you at in info session in the first few weeks of the term. The other access codes I haven't needed at all yet. So you might be able to get everything MUCH cheaper than buying the box. The Dosage Calc book you might even be able to get away without, since the nursing tutor community has all of the practice you need (unless you really need a text and LOTS of extra practice)... I'm NOT a math person and I haven't used the dosage calc book. The powerpoints & practice problems are exactly what you'll see on the tests for dosage calc. That's my 2 cents... :)

Thanks, that just released some weight off my shoulders. Do you or does anyone know the ISBN's for the books for the 1st term? I put in the names of the books on Chegg and Amazon, but it brings up a list with a lot of books listed and I'm not sure which ones to price.

thank you all for the great information that you have posted. it definitely helps but this wait is killing me. i am counting down the days until we find out. like many of you, i am stalking my mail box. i am stalking my fscj email too.

i wish the best for everyone who has applied. i will continue to check this to see who receives their acceptance letter. i know i will post if and when i get mine.

:nurse:

The wait is beyond killing me! I so want to get the wait over with. I guess we can find out anytime from now until the end of July. Good Luck Everyone :lol2:

Yes, me too, I will post either way, hopefully I will post acceptance and not denial!

Hey Bug :redbeathe

I'm not sure, but in the application packet on the pages that broke down the classes and costs for each term, it included books and insurance and uniforms and shoes and watch, etc. as part of the total tuition. So, again I'm not sure, but it seems like if we buy certain things new through the school that we might be able to use aid to purchase them. Like for pre-reqs, if we purchased books from bookstore, we could use financial aid, but if we wanted to save money and get them on Amazon or wherever, we had to pay out of pocket. Anyway, this is all speculation. I'll call tomorrow and see if I can get some clarification.

Don't you worry your sweet lil' head about it. It's going to work out. You've been worrying for more than a year now, and it's worked out thus far.

Thanks, Jen!! :yeah:

I was going to wait on the tests and such since it seems you have to present the carbon copy forms from FSCJ to the clinic or doctor's office or wherever, but I'm glad you posted that because I would feel terrible if I was talking about getting a head start and somebody went and got their physical, bloodwork, etc. just to have to pay to have it done all over again in a couple weeks.

I would be really interested in the list of supplies. I don't want to buy them early and jinx myself, but I would like to go ahead and price them and be prepared for when it is time to buy.

i really want to get my books ahead of time, too, because i refuse to pay for rush shipping. but i am hesitant to do that now because twice during my pre-reqs i bought the required text ahead of time, and then the teacher decided to change the required text for the next term to a newer edition or change the supplemental material.

usually, when i order from amazon, i get my purchase via standard shipping within a week. i think if we order as soon as we get accepted, we'll get everything in time for orientation. i may have to bite it and pay for rush shipping since, from what i understand, we'll be given assigned reading, etc. at orientation to prepare for the test we'll have to take first day of class. although, it seems like several of the books will be references that we will need to keep. i might just use financial aid to buy them new at orientation.

what to do, what to do?!?!?!!! i don't know, but i want my e-mail/packet!!!!!!
