FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Florida

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

I have been reading all of the posts and figured this may be a good forum to get assistance. I am a returning student (have a BS in finance over 15 yrs ago) and now taking my nursing pre-reqs. I have taken 3 so far and gotten 'A's but now am taking A&P I and taking it online. As it has been a while since I last took any science class and as I want to do well in this class, if anyone can share any tips it would be welcomed. Especially anyone that has taken this class online, I would love to hear from you. I work 40 hrs/week and am only taking this class until July when I start music appreciation, so besides work I am trying to study and read each chapter more than once. I did my 3rd online lab tonite which took over 3 hrs and now I am a little worried. (it is only my 2nd week of class so I may be overreacting).

thanks in advance & good luck to those who are just entering the nursing program.

Hey Ash08, well good luck to ya! How long have you been a nurse?

Also, I was reading some posts on another board from a couple years ago, and it says that it takes 2-3 wks for you to get your NAT scores.....but I'm pretty sure I remember my last NAT scores printing on the computer that day. Does anyone know for sure? Maybe they recently changed it?

You do get your NAT results the same day if you take the computer test. I am not sure but I think all campuses have the computer version.

The NAT score is printed as soon as you are finished with the test.

Anna,

A&P I online is very time consuming. The worst part about the course is the tests. Because you are taking the course online, you'll be taking standardized tests and they are MUCH, MUCH more difficult than most instructor-generated exams.

My best advice to you is to get every available point on your non-exam assignments (discussion boards, labs, and any other assignments you are given by your instructor) because you will need them to raise your overall grade. No one in my entire online class had an "A" average on their exams alone and only 2 had "B" averages on their exams. I only managed an "A" in the class because I had almost every other point available and those points compensated just enough to offset the "B" average from my exams.

The final is the easiest exam if I recall. I actually got an A on that one, but not on any others.

To prepare for the exams, I studied 5 nights a week at a minimum, read every page of every chapter and studied terms and study questions at the end of each chapter even though they weren't assigned.

The upside is that I learned a LOT more in A&P I than I did in A&P II, which I took in a classroom. The downside is that I worked 10 times harder for the A in the online course than I did for the same grade in the classroom.

And yes, I did all of this while working full time, but I wasn't taking any other courses during the A&P I course.

Good Luck

lwalk,

to apply to the nursing program, you must have been accepted for admittance to fscj. that means your ap courses taken in high school should have already been submitted to the fscj admissions office and your transcripts screened.

during the admissions process, your transcripts will be reviewed and your courses imported into your fscj transcript as course equivalencies. to apply for the nursing program, you submit only your fscj transcript to the address on the application packet. they won't accept any others.

if it's not on your fscj transcript, as far as the nursing admissions screeners are concerned, you didn't take the course. but that's a moot point because you can't apply for the nursing program until you've been admitted to fscj in the first place, and that process ensures that you get credit for all of your previous coursework.

the transcript screening process can take up to a month to complete, so i'd talk to an admissions advisor (for fscj, not for the nursing program) as soon as possible to start the process.

good luck.

After having to decline my seat for the Summer term, I've re-applied for this Fall's Evenings & Weekends class with the same points that got me in last time.

Hopefully those points are still good enough for that section.

Good luck to everyone.

Hello....I have been an LPN for over 2 years now. What about you? If you take the computerized NAT test, you will get your results as soon as you take it. Then send in that paper with your nursing application. Hope that helps....

How many points are you applying with? I applied with 222.44 for nights and weekends but I don't know if that is enough.

I talked to the head of the nursing program, she said fall takes 168 people, and 24 of those people go to nights, and there isnt a cut off as to who goes, the first 144 people could all want days, so the 24 lowest scores would all get nights, it goes on first come first serve, and vice versa if the highest 24 want nights they will get it. So really there isnt a cut off persay, just hope that the people before you dont all want nights. But anyways, I am a nervous wreck right now, I take the NAT at 11:30 tomorrow, and then am taking my app out to north campus, right now as I sit I have 98 pre-req points without micro, so I am hoping to get at least 100pts on the nat, I feel a 198 is a pretty secure score to get in with since the cutoff for summer was 196 at only 68 people.

I don't know of a semester in which 222 wasn't high enough to make the nights/weekends cut. I was accepted last term with 240.3, which is what I'm applying with again for the fall.

If you were accepted last term why didnt you take it?
