So....now I'm confused. I didn't sign the Hep B waiver, and didn't have a titer for Hep B done, but I did get my first injection of the vaccine. I have to go back for my 2nd on the 19th of this month. I sure hope that's good enough for them!!!! What do you all think?

And.....what all is everyone bringing to orientation, and (I guess this next question is kind of stupid....) but what are you wearing? Business casual, jeans, dress???? I don't want to look like a slob, but I don't want to be overdressed and have everyone looking at me like I'm an idiot! :)

Hello,

Sign the waiver anyways because they will hassle you if you do not have the titer done. Then when you're done with the series you can bring it to them. They will have copies at orientation if you need them. Thats when they make sure everyone has all their paperwork in.

I wore regular, comfortable clothes to orientation. You'll be in the auditorium all day. Be comfy. Bring a pen and just a small notebook to write on. They break for lunch. Also, I forgot to bring a check for my skills kit and luckily just had enough money on a credit card. So don't forget that.

Good luck!!

I was planning to wear a nice pair of pants, a nice shirt and a comfy pair of shoes... clean and neat.. kinda business casual I guess. I am also bringing my soon to be hubby with me-- I can always use an extra pair of eyes and ears. I have a whole notebook going with all of our info in it-- also has extra paper. I was going to bring cash for the skills kit. And hopefully some extra money for tuition and for those ever soo EXPENSIVE books!

did you call the school and confirm that you can bring non nursing students?

Elby,

Thanks for the info. I feel a lot better about it now. I can't wait until orientation. I'm just ready to know what my schedule will be like. Then I can relax, if only for a couple weeks before classes. Actually, I'll be working asw much OT at work as I can, because once school starts, there will be no more OT for me. 40 hours a week, plus school will be enough as it is!

Okay so I did call this morning -- the woman who picked up was awfully rude-- She practically barked "NO" down my throat for asking if anyone else was allowed to come to orientation. She didn't offer any other tips of information either. __ I get the strict impression that they just want you and your money!__

Now at this point I'm just whinning and possibily being childish----

I know I keep saying this-- but FCCJ should really have their act together and their information more down pat in this whole situation ( it would save lots of confusion and phone calls.) If there is a board/group for stuff like this I intend on bringing a list of changes/additions to the packets up for debate.

I mean, it woudln't hurt to give us more of hook to bite onto!! There isn't much info online or via "advisors", and we worked our butts off to get to this point-- and now that we are accepted, its all still such a big question/secret! WHY!?!

I totally agree with you. I'm very upset at the fact that everything is so secretive with them. And I've also gotten some wrong info from them. They told me the night/weekend program for this fall would be run out of the Deerwood campus, but then the other week, I asked again just to confirm it, and they said no! And the funny part is that is was the same advisor in the nursing office who told me two different things. I'm irritated, but I'm just happy that I'm in.

Orientation is an all day event. You will go over your paperwork regarding your immunizations and background check. They had us line up and turn in anything that we needed to first thing. Then they discuss misc information with you regarding testing, lab, and the program in general. Then they will go over a study/stress management powerpoint with you and following that power points on dosage calc and medical terminology. The schedule (except the night/weekend program is based on lottery. You truly draw numbers out of a hat and then they call you up and allow you to make your selection of what section you want. They sell the skills kit at orientation as well. There is a lunch break for about an hour or so in the middle of it all.

The biggest piece of advice I can give with regards to the program is to be flexible. Things change and you have to adapt. I think they are trying to prepare us for the real world right from the beginning :)

Good luck to everyone!

all of that in 8+ hours??? hehe. well i'd imagine the registration for classes taking a while. do you have to pay for your classes at orientation? what's the usual deadline for payment, like at least a week before classes start?

do they make you do anything extraneous in regards to dosage calc and terminology? like do we have to study that stuff or turn anything in after orientation/before school starts? do they test you on anything on the first day?

thanks!

and btw thanks to all the current nursing students answering our questions!

You won't be registering for classes at orientation. You make your selection for the section and will be given the reference numbers, and after orientation they give you access to register through Artemis. The payment deadline will be whatever the payment deadline is for the college.... They extend them so several times, but I think I had to pay mine a week after orientation. The cost was $911.80.

Your medical terminology and dosage calc exam might be the Monday before classes start, otherwise it is the following week. You will receive your assignment at orientation as to what you need to study.

oh man well i'm hoping my exam won't be before school starts! i'm going out of town a week before school, my vacation has been planned for a while. oh well we shall see.

thanks!

i can't believe orientation is just a few days away... this is getting really... real now. lol.:uhoh3:

If I remember correctly, the schedule I chose began on a Tuesday. Mondays are exam days and they utilized what would normally be exam time that day to give us a dosage calc class, so it was the day before my classes actually started. It will all work out... enjoy your vacation now! :lol2:

Be glad that you will have a little break after your 1st semester is over though (Christmas). We have a whopping 2 days off between 1st and 2nd term :uhoh3: I really can't complain though, I love every bit of it.

ooops, vacation = flying on aplane to california for a couple of days! at first i wasn't gonna go but i figured that i wouldn't be able to do so again until nursing school is over.

anyway, for those who are already nursing students: what do you recommend brushing up on in regards to a&p or perhaps micro? it's been a while since i've taken a&p and i've sadly forgotten some stuff. i did save my notes and book though!
