Favortism in Nursing School

Published

In my nursing school there was favortism to an alarming degree. 2 girls in particular had the red carpet rolled out for them, and screwed the rest of us. They got to do all the skills in clinical, got to do all the different areas Or, Er, ect. while us "others" did not get to go to OR or ER and some of my classmates who have graduated did not get to do certain skills in clinical, such as IVs, caths, ect. Also some people graduated who shouldn't have. 2 people who did not have passing grades graduated. And one person who cheated on every test last semester graduated. Does this seem right to you? Does this seem fair? This was not my programs only problem, there was also the girl who got slapped in the face in clinical. I was shocked. The disorganization, the rampant favortism. and the abuse in my program has many of my classmates angry and they will be reporting it.

So what about your nursing program? Was there favortism in your nursing program? Please share your stories.

Yup. From what I understand, it only gets worse .

I haven't really noticed it. As far as getting to do skills in clinical, it's up to us to seek out the opportunities. I let the co nurses no I would love to do the injections if they get any, even nurses un assigned, my first injection in clinical came from the Pt of a unassigned nurse.

Another nurse saw me in med room and I had never even seen her before, she asked if I wanted to assist with a Thorasentesis and I cleared it with my co nurse and went. One of my pt was going down for an abdominal u/s (she had sepsis) and I asked if I could go to.

Had I not jumped out there and asked for these opportunities or made it known I wanted them or took advantage when offered I would have missed out. I have made some really good friends though in Nursing School and we help eachother out. When I got a chance for another injection, I knew a friend of mine on the same wing had not had the opportunity yet, so I asked my Co Nurse if she could do the injection in stead so she had her first time. I know she would have done the same for me.

I meant to say that the girl who got slapped in clinical was slapped by her CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR.
Isn't that assault?? How can that possibly be allowed by the school??

The girl who got slapped by her clinical instructor didn't want to jeopardize her graduating so she didn't report it. I think once she gets her license which should be soon she will report it. Everyone in that clinical knows it happened and will back her up. I think this program is on its deathbed, they almost got shut down last year and now there will be more serious complaints this year so we will see what happens.

There is NO WAY I would allow someone to slap me and I sit idly, if they tried to dismiss me for reporting PHYSICAL ASSAULT I would sue their orifices off! That is absurd and goes beyond crossing a line.

You mean everyone saw this happen and then went to lunch or whatever and that was the end of it? That is truly disturbing.
