FAU 2015 ABSN Applicants

Published

Applications are open for FAU's January 2015 enrollment date! With just over 4 months until the deadline and 8 months to the start of the program, now seemed like as good a time as any to start a forum to ask questions, relay information, and support possible future classmates.

To start off, I was wondering if any one knew if they normally offer a ABSN program that begins in the Spring. I had only heard of admittance to the Summer semester at the beginning of May.

Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks Maggie!!! I'll look for it later today.

I agree with Maggie.. I would look for private loans as well I plan on doing a little work on the side cause every bit helps.

I feel hopeful on schedules today!!;)

I don't have facebook but that's great since many people requested it. Hopefully once school starts we can all communicate study groups and such through emails too?!

@coachepperson.... Im scared ****less tbh!!! I just gave my two weeks on Tuesday BC I only got my official acceptance on Monday. My lease ends Dec 31... I have no job... Problems with in state tuition now and since I just got officially accepted I have no idea about loans. :-( I just keep telling myself it is going to work out. I don't have kids though...

BTW, one of the highschools (Spanish river hs) is ranked among the best in the nation if your kids are old enough for that.

I'll fill you in about my knowledge about loans. It may be little, but maybe it will give you somewhere to start. I'm sure it is different with every person, but I'll try to help! Fill it a FASFA as soon as you can. This is a federal pell grant that is given upon need for assistance. It depends on your income or the income of your family, how many dependents you have, how many your parents support etc. Through FASFA you will also get offered a decent amount of subsidized and unsubsidized loans per semester. (I believe once your FASFA goes through there is an "estimated amount of loans/pell grants" somewhere on the website.) Through my experience it might be enough to cover tuition by semester. But since we are all unsure of our schedules and exactly how much all of this extra stuff this is going to cost I have looked into private loans. Wells Fargo has a good one I've heard, Sallie Mae is great with students. I just went into a Suntrust totally clueless and just asked them about it. They themselves did not have a good loan option for me but the woman led me in a good direction. I haven't accepted one yet, but it's definitely something I'm still working on! Hopefully that helps a little!

Thanks for that. My academic advisor, Vera Beach, told me that they would not certify any private loans because they are already giving us the maximum. However, that maximum only covers tuition, no books or housing.

Private loans do not go through the school! They are offered through a bank rather. It will account for those supplemental expenses that are not tuition.

Carly, I talked to the bank an they said they would send the money to the school, the school would take out tuition and then give me the rest. My advisor told me that she wouldn't certify that type of loan.

Coach- wow that is worrisome! I'm surprised they wouldn't work more with you. I would suggest talking to her supervisor/manager, if you haven't already. Also, talk to someone with authority in the nursing school. Explain the situation and work with them on a solution. I will pray for you & your family in this situation! Keep us updated.
