FAU 2015 ABSN Applicants

U.S.A. Florida

Applications are open for FAU's January 2015 enrollment date! With just over 4 months until the deadline and 8 months to the start of the program, now seemed like as good a time as any to start a forum to ask questions, relay information, and support possible future classmates.

To start off, I was wondering if any one knew if they normally offer a ABSN program that begins in the Spring. I had only heard of admittance to the Summer semester at the beginning of May.

Best of luck to everyone!

You have to have the TB test done twice but they have to be at least a week apart.

Debblasko- like the other person said, we need two. You can read about why, but in short, there is a small chance in some people that you would get a false negative so two skin tests are necessary if you don't get a blood test or chest X-ray.

Heads up for some people who need TB tests: CVS minute clinic charges $28 for TB testing and $28 to read it (total $56) and they don't accept insurance. Walgreens clinic charges $28 total for the skin TB test, and you can try to use your insurance. These might be good alternatives given the holiday coming up. CVS and Walgreens are open on the weekends too. I did one TB with my doctor and will do the second with Walgreens because of the time crunch.

@ScrubsLove I didn't know that... so I'm going for my reading tomorrow. When do i need to have the second tb test done? Are there instructions for this somewhere?

@byesuah So you should go get your second TB test done Thursday or later.

Anyone still having trouble with the fingerprinting process? Being out of state sucks -_-

N the phone with cp . they are switching my profile to out of state so I can get my fingerprints done hopefully! She said I could do the test as early as next Wednesday.

@thatguy777 If you call Certifiedzprofile they should be able to change it for you. I just got them to do it for me. They're open for another hour tonight. :-)

Byesuah- certified profile explained to me when I called. I also googled "2 step TB test" and the first result explains it well. CVS or Walgreens may be the best option given their flexible hours!

I got my first TB test and it was negative, but I can't get my second TB skin test until December 2nd. You think as long as you got the first one and it came out negative that the second one is okay past December 3rd?

@mim10 I'm confused. I got mine read yesterday too... I'm going on Thursday to have another one placed then I'll go back Sunday to have it read. You should be in a similar boat. That's before December 2. Either way... I think it should be fine. I would email colleen slocombe to let her know what's happening.

Does anyone know if we have a regular fau orientation if we aren't a previous fau student or is that waived since we have a degree already? Just wondering if anyone knew when/where/when etc about that.

Byesuah- so I kinda looked into that but it seems that you have to register for orientation and I think I'm not technically a student there (preliminary acceptance) so I got an error when I tried. That was just me poking around myfau. I don't know if you asked because you want to do it, because I would like to, but maybe when it gets closer we'll be able to register. Otherwise, I don't think it's a requirement.

@ScrubsLove Yeah. Idk if I care to do it I know my way around BC of having friends there. I might change my mind though.

Did anyone else notice the 12 hours above and beyond the regular classes we have to take? They're technically prerequisites, but can be completed during the program. I wonder if that means we'll be a semester behind graduation (if we haven't done them yet)?
