I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.
I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.
Hey hope2b! I took the TEAS V once and got a 96% adjusted score (99th percentile). I used the ATI study guide and practice exams exclusively. I spent 3 weeks before the exam reviewing the material in the study guide (no more than 2 hours per day or so) and taking the mock exams, and felt sufficiently prepared going in. I would say everything on the test was reflected in the study manual, the only exception being the science section. This goes more in depth with details you are expected to know from your pre-reqs (A&P, microbio, etc.). I have a BS and MS in biology, so I was more than prepared for the science section (I got 100% on that portion), but most people likely need to go a bit beyond the manual for that section. There are a few threads on here that give a very detailed list of topics/ideas you should be familiar with. Good luck and keep us updated! :)
Taken from the FAU website:
"What are the hours of the program?
You will spend approximately 40 hours per week in classes and clinical nursing practice, which does not include study time. This is in addition to the 40 hours. We do not recommend working while in this program. Our nursing practice sites are dependent on the location and may vary year to year. In general, nursing practice courses are from 7am to 7pm and are at least 3 days per week and it is possible that there will be clinical nursing practice on weekends. "
Basically, the program is not flexible, just accelerated. If you need flexibility, the traditional program may be more suitable for your needs.
I spoke with a very helpful nursing adviser at FAU. She informed me that, for the first time, FAU is considering the GPA for post baccalaureate work as long as it resulted in a degree. In other words, the school will consider either your bachelors degree GPA (cumulative over the entire 120 credits) OR your masters degree. This is wonderful news for me! Good luck to everyone and I hope this information can help someone else as well. :)
Hey guys! How are applications going? I know most of us have finals the next few weeks, so good luck to everyone!
I just wanted to remind everyone how important it is that you check NursingCAS to make certain they have received your transcripts. Apparently there was a bit of a mishap with my recent transcript request. I ordered them to be delivered after this terms grades are in, but somehow the registrar sent them early instead. I would not have known if I hadn't checked NursingCAS on a whim today. Keep in mind most schools close for a certain time over the holidays, so you need to make sure to request transcripts before they close or you risk having an incomplete application. Best if luck!
Hey everyone! Thank you for the invite to the thread, Quendi :) Who's ready to play the waiting game?! Ahhh! I'm applying to the traditional BSN program for the 2nd time. Last year didn't work out, but this is the only program I reallllly want to attend, so I'm going for it again! ? Quendi, as long as you have excellent test scores, you will be golden! I have a 4.0 science gpa, scored in the 90th percentile last year, yet didn't make the cut. I was told that the average test percentiles of the students admitted was about 97-99, so the test is everything! Are you applying to the traditional or accelerated program?
Welcome! I'm surprised there aren't more traditional applicants on these threads. You'll find many of us agree with you about FAU's program, so I completely understand giving it your priority. As for the waiting game, I've been playing that since I applied on October 1st. Haha.
I scored a 96% individual adjusted (99th percentile) on my TEAS. My science GPA is a 3.9, but I have a Master's degree so I'm hoping they will take that into consideration. I'm applying for the accelerated program. :) I'm so excited!
Out of curiosity, did you do all of your prereqs at FAU?
Best of luck to you, and let us know how it goes!
Oh my goodness, you should be so relaxed... a Master's, 96 (99th) test score, and a high gpa? Woof good for you!! You're definitely a shoe-in! I took all of my pre-reqs at another college. For the interview, the FAU website says they will conduct the them "in a small group setting"... Does that mean no personal interview? Hmmm
Thank you for the vote of confidence! I certainly hope to be offered an interview. I can't wait!
That's what it sounds like to me. It would be hard to interview 80 applicants in one day, I imagine. I think it's their way of personalizing the experience and making more informed decisions about their applicants, while not taking on the daunting responsibility of reading hundreds of personal statements (imagine having that job!). I'm very happy they have implemented the interviews.
Hi fellow applicants! Have a QUICK question....did anyone attend the small group advising sessions? I'm scheduled for TODAY but could really use the time for TEAS studying instead if it is similar to the information session I attended months ago. Any input (quickly) would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello Everyone! I am applying for FAU's Traditional BSN program. Could someone please provide me with some study tips for taking the TEAS V? I have only taken the HESI and have heard horror stories about the TEAS. Feel free to tell me about your experience and what you felt really helped you achieve a competitive score. Any and all suggestions are appreciated! Thank you in advance! :)
