I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.
I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.
Thank you both for your encouragement. A representative from the program said that, while they can't guarantee acceptance, they have accepted precalculus in some instances in the past. I still don't know if a C- is classified as a C or if I can retake the course next spring, but I figure some sort of resolution will be had one way or another. Quendi- I was in a similar spot with PBSC. I had taken upper division anthropology courses as well, but none transferred (go figure). I ended up taking the CLEP for HG&D, but bit the bullet and took sociology there. I hadn't even thought of contacting FAU to ask them about my situation; I had the time to take the class, so I did.
I am finishing up Nutrition, HG&D, and Sociology this semester. They are the only things I have left, and I am actually enjoying them. I have the best Sociology professor imaginable.
On another note, my transcripts were verified a few days ago. I guess the 5 weeks is more applicable for end of term periods. It only took them a few days to get mine done once I submitted. Now to finish up the term with A's and hope for the best!
I know under the FAQ it states that you report it on NursingCAS. However, I just found this under the application area. I copied this straight from the web page.
"If the TEAS exam is taken at a center other than FAU's Testing Center, the Individual Performance Profile report provided by the testing center must be faxed, mailed, or e-mailed to the College of Nursing for verification. The College of Nursing must receive this report before the nursing program application deadline."
I would be sure to do both.

Hi fishfan,
I agree with Quendi- they should take your Calculus grade, but it is possible they will allow you to take it in Spring. I am in an interesting position- I took dual enrollment courses while in high school so I filled most of my general education requirements that way. I haven't taken intro to sociology, but have taken upper division anthropology and social work courses. I spoke to someone in the nursing school and she told me that if in fact the upper division courses won't be substitutes, I can take the course in January. I'm actually clepping the exam, but maybe the same will apply to your algebra class.
