FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Quendi,

Have you received your bachelor's already? Or are you finishing up this semester?

I assume I can begin entering all my information into nursingCAS even though I graduate in December right?

Hi Kerry! To address your second question first, yes you can enter your information into nursingCAS as early as you want. I highly recommend it, as it is a little bit time consuming. It will also allow you to get the proper paperwork that you need to request transcripts from your colleges. I would have the college send two sets, your current transcripts as of now, then an updated set of transcripts once the semester is completed. That will allow you to submit your application earlier, as you will enter the classes you are currently taking anyway, and you can add the final grades to your application later.

As per your first question, I already have both a Bachelors and Masters degrees in Biology from FAU with some doctoral work in Cell and Molecular Biology. I'm currently taking pre-reqs required by the Nursing program and should be done in December as well. :)

Ok...Application Submitted

Woo! Now we play the waiting game.

I know...It is a long waiting game.

I'm applying to the traditional program. I just took my teas v today, so I will be submit my application sometime next week. Did anyone do the optional sections?

Quendi,

Thank you so much for your detailed response, I appreciate the help!

Kayl - I did not complete any of the optional sections, mainly because I know what the nursing program is looking for, and I figured it would just be more for them to have to sift through to get to the critical information (TEAS scores, GPA, courses grades, etc). I did make sure to upload a .pdf of my TEAS scores though. You never know if the paperwork ends up where it is supposed to, so I did that as a backup.

Kerry - Not a problem at all! Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to help. :)

:)

Yes...that you HAD to upload.

I also didn't fill in the extra areas. They said they had no interest in those areas.

What was the supplemental link for that application? Was it only the FAU school application? I have that done already so I skipped that...but figured I would verify.

I believe you are correct. It simply takes you to the FAU website for those who are not yet pre-nursing students. It's to obtain your FAU ID (known as a Z number) for the nursingCAS, and helps streamline the process if you are accepted to the program.

Hi, all. I've been preparing to enter the ABSN program all year, but I just noticed something painfully obvious that might throw a wrench in the works. The program requires a minimum grade of a "C" or better in each prerequisite, and as I've only just realized, I have a "C-" in college algebra. It's the only blemish in my prerequisite coursework (chalk it up to freshman year carelessness), but of course one mistake is all it takes. I have to contact someone tomorrow and see if I still have a chance. I did get a "C" in precalculus (presumably a more difficult course), so maybe they'll accept that instead. Good luck to the rest of you.

Hey fish. I'm assuming they will take the precalculus grade. If not, make sure to ask if you can retake it in Spring for a better grade (it's supposed to be completed in this term, but perhaps they will make an exception?). Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
