FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

Published

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

The wait is hard! I think those with transcript issues will be fine since they will not inform us of the interviews yet.

Thanks guys, I'm also nervous because I did terrible on the teas exam because I only had 3 days to study, I gotta 65% which sucks because I currently have a 3.9 GPA, do anyone knows of anyone thats gotten in with a low score, but a good GPA?

Hi Kumi. I'm sorry to hear that. I know you must be disappointed.

Fortunately, there is no longer a minimum TEAS score for applicants, so you are still safe to apply. I don't think many people on the thread have reported their test scores, so I can't say one way or another. I would say don't stress about it now, because it is beyond your control at this point. Just sit tight and hope for the best. :)

thanks quendi really appreciate the encouraging words, I'm definitely thinking positive still ;)

Does anyone know how many days a week the absn students are in class or if classes can be taken online or mostly at night?

Hello,

I know this is an old question, but I figured it hasn't been fully answered yet and some may still be curious.

With the new curriculum, the ABSN students have had class and/or clinical four days a week for the first three semesters. To the best of my knowledge, the final semester really depends on your preceptor's schedule, but I am not positive. So far, only two courses have been offered online; but even with those online courses, there is still class/clinical four days per week. Classes usually start at either 8:00am or 9:00am and end anywhere from 2:50pm to 5:50pm. Clinicals can start as early as 6:30am and end as late as 4:00pm or so.

As Quendi said, there is no flexibility with the program. This holds true for the Traditional track as well, it just requires you to take less credits per semester, which can mean fewer days in class/clinical.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi Bronze!

Dr. D chiming in. I can give you the complete story on this one! The course is 4 semesters long and we have done a great job of scheduling courses just 4 days a week under the new curriculum. So far it has been 2 days of class and 2 days of clinical.

There are some courses that extend into the evening (Pharm goes until 6:50); you may need to schedule a visit with your interdisciplinary team in the evening or on a Saturday. To get clinical facilities we have had to schedule clinical on weekends in the past three years as well. But, we strive to have weekdays as much as possible.

We rarely allow online courses for prelicense students. We have just recently allowed that approach and the outcomes will determine our future use. We are so successful with live course delivery, it is hard to argue the approach!

Anyway, I hope that helps!

I am thrilled to announce ....Nursing Cas has FINALLY received my 4th set of transcripts! They are processed and completed.

I am looking forward to starting back in school as I have this semester off. I am trying to get my house in order and my kids and husband prepared. It has been so boring being home this semester after being in school all last year! I can't believe Im saying that. I really miss the hustle and bustle. I know it will pass quickly.

I am far from the campus so it is wonderful to hear the information regarding the scheduling. I plan on driving up early in the morning and staying all day. I imagine I wont be alone. It's hard to imagine fitting this entire BSN into 4 semesters. I am excited and terrified at the same time!

Congrats mchel210!!! Now its time for the waiting game, I'm guessing by the next 2 weeks someone should get something....I think i'm the only one doing the traditional track

Hey lovingkumi! I'm right there with you applying for the traditional track program :) good luck to you! Hopefully we find out soon about interviews... I'm dying over here!

My UG GPA was 2.99. Do you think they will round to 3.0? Also, I took AP Statistics in high school for college credit but that was 11 years ago. Anyone know if this will be accepted? I have taken higher level math like calculus...

I hope I at least get an interview. . I graduated with high honors from BC so it says on my transcript lol. . . but I just for some reason didn't do well on the TEAS exam. . . if I can at least get an interview at FAU it would make my decision to defer my seat from NSU this past January well worth it.

Serendipity I'm sure they will accept it...but don't mark my word tho lol, but I don't see why not...I don't know much about the rounding of the GPA though.... I'm sure they'll judge you overall, grade, teas an etc to make a decision.... Keep hope alive....IF ANYONE RECEIVE A LETTER PLEASE POST...WILL THEU NOTIFY BY EMAIL? LETTER? OR BOTH????
