FAST exams in traumas

Published

I work in a level one trauma center where our ER docs and residents perform a "FAST" exam in activated and non-activated traumas WITHOUT the use of ultrasound.

This has always struck me as very odd as sonography is IN the acronym! Any other ER's do this? What are your FAST exams like?

Curious.....just how are they doing these FAST exams?

With telepathy?

For the record, our level 1 always uses Ultrasound, didn't know you could without one

I'd love to know how a Focussed Assessment with SONOGRAPHY in Trauma exam is pro formed without the sonography part? Don't they know skin makes an excellent wall but a crappy window! Their not new age healers are they where they believe the body tells them what's wrong?? Hope they have excellent

Maybe they're just doing a "quick" exam and calling it a "FAST" exam?
