My patient's family has 2 cats. They don't behave at all - not sure if cats ever behave. Anyway, I have been at work for a little over an hour and the have blown an air horn at them at least 5 times - my heart just about stops every time! Good grief!

I always remind him that the forth one was his fault. That usually shuts him up.

(I always wanted a white cat, and he is the one who found one for adoption at the SPCA and took me to go meet him.)

HaHa! I bet he secretly loves them. The one I have is actually my husbands cat of 13 years. (I am his wife of 4, sometimes i think the Cat wins) But I've come to love him like my own. Its crazy the bond they have though.....he will come and greet my husband when he gets home and roll over its the funniest thing.

I rescue strays all the time and find homes for them. I always try to keep them and he never lets me, lol. I told him when we're done renting, its on!!

He does like them, even though they are my cats. They like him, too, but they love me. If we are both home in the morning, we will sit and have coffee and all four will pile on my lap at the same time.

I intensely dislike people who declaw cats as well as demand they don't touch or play with anything in the house. GO GET A FISH! They've got no business owning cats. They clearly cannot appreciate them like they're meant to be appreciated. :cat:

Did you read my rationale above? I love my cats, they are declawed, and they are happy and well cared for. Do I think everyone who declaws cats does so for good reasons? No. But it isn't always a decision made lightly, and it isn't always the worst thing for a cat either.

I had a Siamese cat who lived to be almost 23 years old who was declawed LONG (in then front) before it became unpolular. My Mother the cat declawed when she accidentally scratched by face...needing stitches when I was a toddler. My cat lived a long healthy well cared for life. Never stepped foot outside without a leash....or in a baby carriage when we were little and had the run of the house....all 3 floors.

Blowing an air horn at the cat....I'm not sure that is an effective method to make a cat behave....they usually just look at you like you have lost your marbles and walk away ....the humans however become hard of hearing.

OP....maybe suggest they try positive reinforcement like food to deter the cats from misbehaving....I have an idea! Call Jackson Galaxy! from 373020_277932572285318_1492405257_q.jpg[h=5]Animal Planet's My Cat From Hell[/h]

Awwww. Thats how our cat is with my hubby....always chooses his lap but sleeps with me. Go figure. He had a brother who adopted me who was mine but he had to go to heaven in march :( We're only allowed one, so I can't get another. We were able to get away with it because he was indoor/outdoor. Had to boot him outside and be like "this weird cat thinks he lives here" when landlord came because as soon as the door would open he'd try to come back inside. It was actually quite comical.

I'm not a supporter of declawing cats, but I have come to realize some people make the choice even though they would rather not. I would indeed prefer to see 4 cats who love each other and their owner stay together and with that owner forever with no claws than to see them split up and possibly euthanized because said owner can't keep them if they have claws.

No I haven't read your post and my post wasn't aimed at you in particular, it was a general statement of my ethical and moral disgust at people who declaw cats. You are free to disagree and do as you wish, however I am not required to approve of it. Cats are predators and to take away their most defining feature is a huge transgression in my eyes. I have a cat who was declawed by a previous owner who then abandoned her and she is completely insecure and over-reacts to every perceived threat because she has no way to defend herself.

This thread is about the family of the patient that the OP cares for blowing an air horn to make their cats behave and NOT about the ethics of declawing.

PLEASE STICK TO TOPIC! If you wish to discuss the ethics of de-clawing cats start a thread in the breakroom. Lets stick to topic....Thank you!

Sorry Es!! It seems to me like the cats aren't really misbehaving, OP. They're just being cats. Has the family lightened up on the air horn? It sounds to me like the owners need training :) where is cesar milan when you need him?

The air horn mysteriously ran out of air. I was off for a couple of nights went back last night and I was asked if I had used it because it was empty. Dad said it should have lasted for months. Of course I didn't use it - don't you think the entire house would have heard?!

I'm sure he buy another can soon. Or maybe he will find another way to "train" the cats. Moron.

Suggest that they put pennies in an old soda can. They can shake it to deter the cats and toss it near (not at) the cats if the shaking doesnt work. Its at least a little quieter! I used that with my dog and eventually he learned. My dog was getting in the trash and would start fights with my other dog.

Maybe we should start a thread about annoying habits or ways of living that we've seen with families.
