False positive drug test for Benzos

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I had a positive result for Benzodiazepine. I know for a fact I don't take that or any medications. I don't even like taking medicine. I told the employee health nurse that had to be wrong. She said she will send it to the lab so they can test it.

The only thing I had taken was Formula 303 Pain Relieve Natural Muscle Relaxant, which is over the counter that the chiropractor gave me when I was in a car wreck. I informed her that's all I had and it was only one tablet and the first time I've even taken it, which is a natural relaxant.

She said she never heard of that causing a false positive. Well, I researched it and I've seen that people had false positives from it. I wasn't worried anyway because I know for a fact I don't take prescription medication.

Update from today: I got the call from the employee health nurse that my drug screen was negative. I told her I knew it was negative and that natural relaxant was the one thing I had, which I now threw away. So if anyone ever takes that OTC Natural Muscle Relaxant, just know that in fact, it will cause a false positive drug test. I'm a witness to it.

Yes, it does. I read the ingredients and the main one was Valerian root. Each Tablet Contains: 6 parts Valerian Root (Quad-Strength) 1X, 3 parts Passiflora (Quad-Strength) 1X, 1 part Magnesium Carbonate 1X.

I took a picture of the bottle and ingredients before I threw it out.

Thank you

Sorry if I'm mistaken, but the 1X is a homeopathic potency

Not misinformed at all. If you look up false positives on the internet, people will “claim” any medication will cause such and such to make them positive.

Chiropractors are fake medicine. Sorry, but they are quacks. And more power to you if you think herbs are healing you. Enjoy your placebo affect.

Yes!, and that's not even just herbs, it's straight homeopathic "medicine". lol

Sounds like someone has not been educated correctly because there IS a natural muscle relaxer and it's called magnesium.

In fact , muscle relaxers aren't even muscle relaxers...  They're CNS suppressants. They operate on the CNS to decrease muscle tone.

But anyway... I'm not a doctor or a nurse .. just an idiot who can read.

There is no such thing as a "natural" muscle relaxant. I'd stop seeing your chiropractor and his "fake" medicine.

Actually there are several plants and plant compounds that can be used as a muscle relaxant/sleep aid. Valarian (Which is in Formula 303), Alfalfa, Red Clover, chamomile, peppermint, ginger, Passion Flower andabout 17 others. I use some of them myself and many work quite well. People do need to do their own due dilligence and check out plant compounds for possible side effects and adverse reactions as they would any medicine.

It's ignorant to believe herbs are "Fake" medicine. Up until about the 16th centry most medicines were made from plants. Many plants contain compounds that act as antibiotics and promote collogen formation. While I do still see my regular doctor for care I also use a variety of plant compounds. Last year I had a non-healling rash on my chest that would actually bleed when touched. We were about to start a biologic but I was concerned about side effects.  With my doctor's support I made a poltice of thyme, peppermint leaves and and passion flower and would soak 4x4's in it and place them on the rash in the evening when I was watching tv. After a year of using modern western medicine with no relief the poltice cleared the whole thing up in about a week.

Except those were not herbal remedies in the ingredients, they were homeopathic remedies (the # and the X in the ingredient list).

I totally get what you are saying but all modern medicine was developed by and stands on the shoulders of Near Middle and Far Eastern practices. These practices can still be used as a compliment to modern Western medicine. My personal physician has a very open mind so I am not afraid to talk with him about such things. I still get vaccines and preventative care. Since starting on these practices my autoimmune system has improved to the point that I am now considering stopping my old pain management program which included Opioids.

Except that, unlike herbal medicine, there is absolutely ZERO scientific evidence that homeopathy does ANYTHING (beyond placebo). Herbalism is NOT the same thing as homeopathy (I used to be an herbalist with a successful business that paid for nursing school before I became a nurse). Again, herbalism, TCM, Eastern practices are legit. Homeopathy is snake oil.

Isn't homeopathic when the substance has been watered down so much there nothing left but basically h2o?

Yes. It's the "vibrations" in the carrier that are supposed to have their magical medicinal properties. Also, the number before the X (or C) is supposed to be the strength. The higher the number, the more potent the remedy. However, the higher the number, the more times it's diluted, so a higher number means it contains even LESS of the original active ingredient than a lower number would.
