Fall 2016 Wake Tech Applicants

Published

Hey Everyone,

I'm not new to this site, just new to actually joining and posting my own story since I myself am finally able to began the application process of applying to Wake Tech next Fall. Anyone else out there applying?

Yeah my SOC210 teacher is a LITTLE over the top with it. I thought it would be an easy A as well, boy was I sadly mistaken. I'll take the B however, I can't push myself any harder besides that. However, BIO 168-169 was taken online. Self taught practically. My labs were at home dissecting fetal pigs, sheeps brain, cats eye ball, etc. So wish there was B+ because I was RIGHT THERE, both class 88-89. Her name was Prof. Frear, she was great. Yes I plan on submitting my application VERY soon. Working on CNA requirements now, as I was a challenger. Mrs. Watkins informed me that I would be able to volunteer at the office which I'm a phlebotomist at now, working with the CNA's here. I will take my TEAS and submit before summer time. I really want to enjoy the summer as I feel it wont be to enjoyable considering Spring 2017 applicants do go to school during the summer., lol.

8 more days until orientation and I see where I'm at!! I can't wait! I'm hoping it's good news. I want to know when they will start accepting alternates...I wish I could ask now, but I know they won't answer :(

Good luck APeregoy!!!Praying for you!!!

Hey APeregoy, I was thinking about you yesterday and never got around to telling you what I needed to tell you. Thankfully you posted because it's a sign that all is going to be well because we're on the same page. With that out of the way, I had a patient yesterday that was in the nursing program. Started I believe last Spring, as she will finish this Fall. It's funny because everyone will come tell me "psst, we got a patient here whose a nursing student", which will allow me to introduce myself and get the questions rolling. So our conversation went "hey how are you doing", she answered, "Good". Then I said, "no how is it REALLLLLY going". she said stressed, happy, over it, cant deal". ahhhh nursing school we both laughed. She too was an alternate APeregoy, who also got a D in her A&P class and took again and got a B. She's entered the program with C's, B's and barley A's in sciences. Not sure of her alternate number , but she said they dropped out like flies before, during, and after orientation. She was great to talk to as I was able to get a lot out of her as far as working and managing workload with two kids herself, as I too have two little ones and work. She does not work, instead uses the grants and loans she's afforded. When she began, her Monday and Wed were from 9-12 and done and Tue & Thur was 10-4 and Fridays off. I was telling my husband I wouldn't mind working 3 twelves on the weekend to have off during the week. I truly whole heartedly believe that you will be at Wake Tech this Fall. Have you heard from the other school yet?

Hopefully it'll work out the same for me! I have all A's and B's thankfully, but I know that means nothing at this point lol. I know someone said that Mrs.Watkins told them that they have already had people turn down their seats, I'm just hoping it's enough for me to get one. I plan on working still, and I've already talked to my nurse manager and she said they'd work with my schedule...I just figured I'd end up working every Saturday and Sunday for two of my twelves, and then I'd have to split up my third shift during the week. I won't know about my other school until May, but I'm hoping that I will be in Wake before then. I have the orientation for Wake on the 15th, and then an information session for the other school on the 19th. Then they do their acceptance around the 15th of May.

I've tried not to email anyone lol but I just emailed Mrs Watkins to ask her when and how we are notified if we are later accepted, and if I should know before the deadline to apply for Spring semester. I know it's late in the day so I probably won't hear back until tomorrow, if I hear anything at all.

Hey guys, I just got an email back from health advising asking should I do the bg check and go to orientation because I checked and I have 147 points.

They told me that from 161-150 there are 35-40 alternates alone still in that point range, and that it was up to me if I wanted to pay the 38$ and go to orientation. They told me a lot of spots this semester will be saved for the previous spring semester.

I saw this as a nice way of saying if you are low 150's or under the chances are slim. It has me pretty down, I don't know what I am going to do...

That does not make me feel good at all...I could be alternate 30 or something even with my 156 points. I don't understand why they'd hold most of the spots for spring failures. Ugh. I've already paid for my background check and I plan on going to orientation, I just hope it's not for nothing. How do they not know the exact number of alternates between 161-150 points? I also can't believe there are so many just within those 11 points! I'm going to be devastated if I'm really low on the alternate list. I know last fall when a girl was 6 points shy (like I am with 156 points) she was alternate 8, but it sounds like that won't be happening for me.

I knew when they had only 63 seats and such a low point range for alternates that they may have been keeping them for the failing students.

( IDK about you all but I dont think thats fair, if you fail you fail try again to start over not just get a seat from people who are trying to get in!!!).

It made me feel like giving up for this semester, but APeregoy, I think you still do have a chance, If I where you I would go to the info session. I think I will re-apply for spring and just have to deal with that.

I knew they were keeping seats for the failing students but it sounded like you were saying that if someone doesn't take their seat that instead of giving it to an alternate, that they were going to give it to someone who failed and that's not normally what they do. If there are really 35-40 alternates in the same range as me, idk how high I could be. I would feel better if I had 160.

After reading this I think I need all my pre reqs completed before I even think about applying. I'm kinda confused. So if you don't get in for fall this year, will a spot be held for you in the spring?

Wait...someone else asked and they only have 48 total alternates, so idk that there really are 35-40 of them in that 161-150 range...that seems like a weird spread.

They dont hold hold a seat for you for spring...you have to reapply each semester you don't get in. They may have 90 seats for fall semester, but only give 70 of them to incoming students...the rest of the 20 seats they hold for anyone who may fail spring semester, but want back in the program (the numbers change every semester but that gives you an idea). I say apply whenever you can so you can start as early as possible, if you don't have all your classes done and you don't get in, finish them and apply again.
