Fall 2011 UT Houston Health Sciences hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am a ut houston hopeful applying for the pacesetter and traditional programs for fall 2011! I will be done with my pre-req's: engl 1302 and hist 1302 this spring 2011. I plan on taking the hesi the beginning of December since the deadline for ut-houston has been changed to Jan 15. 2011. I wish everybody good luck as were getting down to the wire!!1 Anyone else out there?

Hey,

I submitted my application last Friday and have been anxiously awaiting a letter with an id and pin for UTlink. How long did it take to get you letters with id information after you submitted your apps? I am super anxious and paranoid that I have forgotten something!

Oldcrone: Haha! That's a terrific idea. If it were not 40 degrees outside (and if I wasn't feeling so lazy) I would give it a go! E-mail surely has been the best way to get in contact with them -- with the registrar, anyway, not the school of nursing.

Ktay: It took about a week for me to receive mine, so hopefully you will get yours soon.

Update: My HESI score is in, too. I took it on December 30th.

My HESI was updated today too!

Yea it took me about a week or maybe even two to get my letter with my pin. Especially since there is a flood of people applying right now I bet it takes a little longer I'm sure you will be fine! If you are worried you could always call or email them..or going there probably is best.

Let's all keep each other posted about interview letters! Does anyone know when they start sending them? Hoping that I get one...

Do you guys mind sharing your GPA's and test scores?? I'm just curious what I'm up against, I spend half the day going over the numbers in my head.

I don't mind, Ktay...I'm constantly looking at the numbers, so I'm curious too :) Here are my stats: prereq GPA 3.684, science 4.000, overall 3.269. HESI score: 97.4, with 860 in Critical Thinking.

Oh, and FYI all...I spoke to someone in student affairs a few months ago (when they were less busy, I suppose) and here's basically what she told me: they usually get about 800 applicants for the Traditional BSN; 150-200 get interviews, and they take 80. Pacesetter track admits 50. Also, they usually get more applications for Fall than spring (but Pacesetter only admits in the fall so maybe it balances out our chances?)

She said for interviews/narrowing down (at least for fall 2010) they looked for GPA of 3.2 or better, and then 75+ in all components of HESI. Average GPA was 3.6 for the fall 2010 admits. I was scribbling this down while I had her on the phone, so I'm not sure which GPA that 3.2/3.6 is in reference to...I wonder if it's the average of all 3 GPAs they look at. Hmm. But she did say that science GPA is more important than the others.

Anyway, that's the info I've got, hope it helps!

ktay, I know what you mean. I've probably triple checked my hesi scores, and gpa. It's kind of like looking in the refrigerator for something to eat, nothing is there, and you check again anyways.. My scores are not terrible. However, I'm very disappointed in my critical thinking score (760). Just above the cutoff is too close for my comfort..

Chaos, that is a phenomenal hesi score!! Not to mention a great gpa. Thanks for sharing all the statistics regarding admissions.

Overall: 3.8

Pre-req: 3.8

Science: 4.0

Hesi overall: 91

critical thinking: 760

Thanks guys! If all works out maybe we'll be in the program together! =) **Trying to stay optimistic through my paranoia. My stats are: Science GPA=4.0 Prereq GPA=4.0 and overall=4.0 I'm confident in those; but, my Hesi was only an 89% with an 840 for the critical thinking. I am super worried since I haven't received my UTlink pin and user name to access everything. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my transcript is received in time and they have my HESI scores. Anybody know what I could do to check that everything is in before its too late and I'm out of time???

I got the UTlink pin in the mail only a few weeks after I submitted my online app. How long have you been waiting?

In the mean time, I would definitely call the registrar until I could speak to someone, just to verify receipt of your application. They were very helpful when I called in the past.

I got a hold of the registrar finally!!! =) I was worried for a good reason because they hadn't received my HESI scores(and I took the test back in Sept.) ...by the way I wanted to let you guys know that your GPA's and test scores are awesome-this program was ALOT of hard work to prepare for! Even if everything doesn't turn out great we deserve a major pat on the back!!! GOOD LUCK...keep everyone posted about interview letters...I know I will be dying to hear

Ktay, glad to hear it all worked out!

And wow, you both have amazing GPAs! And those are pretty solid HESI scores, well above 75%....combine that with GPAs that are off the charts, and I can't imagine why either of you would not get interviews! :yeah: I'm hoping that's what will happen for me too---I have a really high score, which will hopefully cancel out lower overall GPA. (If I could go back and KICK MYSELF during that first bachelor's....*sigh*)

I know what you mean, Ktay; my outlook vacillates between wild optimism (i.e. "hey, what if I get into every school and go on to change the face of nursing?") and total pessimism/paranoia ("I'm never getting in anywhere and will end up living in a box" :uhoh3:).

Anyway, I will definitely keep you posted. And while we wait for letters etc I'm going to try and find a healthy medium: I'll get in somewhere. (We all will!) :)

Lol finally got my ut link and im out having drinks still checking my status its sad

Everything updated for me on the 13th. The status is now pending approval. Was getting slightly worried since the deadline was basically today. Someone from my community college was going into UTHSC for Spring 2011 and informed me that the interview process was pretty casual. There is more of an emphasis on your prereq GPA, overall GPA, science GPA, and your grades on Nutrition, A&P I, & A&P II.
