Hey everyone! I applied to UT houston and I'm waiting to hear if I got an interview. Applicants for years in the past started threads that everyone went to and kept everyone updated on information from the school, and it's nice to hear from possible (fingers crossed) other future classmates. If you don't mind, I'd also like to post our application info: GPA (science and overall), NET scores and experience.
My stats:
Overall GPA: 3.93
Science GPA: 3.75 (I think- UT link is down today :wink2:
NET: composite score was 88% (96 percentile)
I'm currently employed as a CNA in a hospital (only have about a month experience so far)
Goodluck and hopefully I get some replies!

I am planning on applying to UT and TWU by Sept. 1 for their programs starting Spring 2010 (still have to take CHEM this summer). I prefer UT, but I have heard it's so much harder to get into. Right now, my overall GPA is a 3.5 and my science GPA is a 3.2, but after this spring semester, I think both will be higher. Does anyone have any advice? I don't work in the health care field, so I know I'm at a disadvantage there.
I received an interview letter today! My interview is scheduled for the 17th of Feb. It asks me to bring a one page resume and an ID. Please wish me luck!
To answer your question, VAFields8, I've heard quite the opposite. I've heard that TWU is more competitive, but don't quote me on that. There is also rumors going around that if your GPA is below a 3.6, don't consider applying--but please don't quote me on that either. Also TWU's application process is quite vague and not as straight forward as UT houston. They also don't seem to really care about their applicants. I tried to apply to TWU this fall and got screwed over because of them. The process is that you have to apply to university in Denton first, get accepted there before they allow you to apply to their nursing school through an online web account that they opened for you called Pioneer Portal. Where I messed up is that I had no idea TWU in denton would take so long to process your application--even with the knowledge that you're trying to apply to the nursing school. They really take their time and when they finally opened a pioneer portal account for me, it was already one day after the deadline for the nursing school application. In addition, I received almost no communication from TWU except one letter at the end of it all saying I got into the university (pointless). The only communication I got from them was b/c I called. I had nagged them about my need to apply to the nursing school before the deadline and they offered me no solution. So that is definitely something to look out for, apply to the university way early. Furthermore, they have some extra requirements like you should be "Core Complete" from your university and things like that. I'm thinking they don't seem to care about outside applicants is b/c they favor their students--b/c TWU, unlike UT houston, is a university with a pre-nursing program where high school students get accepted into. If I happen not to get into UT houston w/ my interview this fall, I will definitely reapply to TWU (and others) in the spring. GOod luck to you.
HNhoang,
Thank you so much for providing that much detail for me. I actually applied to TWU earlier this week (general application) because they told me I'd need to do that 3-6 months prior to the nursing program deadline (Sept. 1 for Spring semester). You have really shed some light on things for me. I'm still going to apply to both UT and TWU, but UT really is my preference. I'm hoping that after this spring semester, my GPA will be a 3.6 and then up even more after summer. Hopefully, that will increase my chances. Best of luck to you and thanks again!!
When i was applying i applied to both UT and TWU, i was late on the deadline for TWU and got a quicker response from UT. Don't be fooled by the quick responses though, after going through a semester at UT and seeing how the program completely changed and talking to TWU students during clinicals, i definiately would of wanted to attend TWU over UT. Don't get me wrong UT is a great school, i just really hoped they cleaned up their act for their future students. But from what i've seen and experienced, TWU is slow on the application process but they care more about their students than UT.
I applied for the TWU Spring 2009 program and was not accepted. They only look at the reading portion of the NET, and there is a weird Net/ GPA ratio that they go by. I think it's 80% GPA 20% Net reading. There is no interview. It is all GPA and Net. Also, if you attend TWU Denton for the first 2 years you are given a .4 advantage on your gpa. If your GPA from TWU is 3.4, then for the nursing program it will be 3.8 (to help their own students get in before anyone else.) I didn't even bother applying for the fall because there was not enough time for me to do anything about my GPA. Also, in Spring 2010 they will no longer be using the NET test. I don't know what test they will use, but I found this out at the information session. By the way, if you are interested in applying to TWU in the next 6 months to a year I recommend going to the information session. You will learn everything you need to know about the application process. It also explains it on the website, and if you e-mail the admissions counselor she will give you the info.
I have not heard anything from UT-Houston yet. For some reason I can't sign in to UT-link. It says my pin needs to be two letters followed by 3 numbers. This was not the case 3 days ago. Has anyone else had this problem? I might have to break down and call them again. I don't like bothering people.

Hey! I talked to a BSN counselor about those letters. She said they are strictly confirmation that your information is in their system and that it is the correct information. They have no link to who gets interview letters and who dos not. Everyone should eventually get a letter with all their UTLINK information.
