Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

I am feeling very discouraged and a little surprised that I haven't been accepted.

My overall undergraduate GPA is a 3.9

My nursing prerequisite GPA is a 3.8

My prerequisite science GPA is a 3.6

HESI overall Score: 95

I also have a Bachelor of Science in Health from Texas A&M.

I know people who have been accepted with 3.3 GPAs so i'm very confused and sad. I was feeling confident that I would get in. :(

wow your stats are great... Now I wonder how they really pick students . I also think they should have more teachers to be able to accept more students is crazy only 120 get accepted from over 1000 applications

Hello @rnhopeful22! I know it is tough and very unfortunate but UTHealth has a history of choosing applicants from both ends of the spectrum.

You have amazing stats, no doubt about it. However we will never really and entirely know the rationale into how they admit students.

The problem is not you and you should not feel discouraged! If anything, apply again and see what happens, but do not feel down about this. We're all in this together. Best of luck to you!

I'm with you. I have 3.9 cumulative and 4.0 science and got a 94 on the HESI. I was soooo convinced that I'd get a seat this semester - without really understanding just how many people apply and just how smart they all probably are. It's okay, though, there is always next semester. And I'm for sure going to apply to more schools - definitely UTMB and TWU as well as UT Health. Also, remember that there are people with stats just like yours that don't get in every semester and it doesn't really make any sense. Your stats are incredible though - and I'm sure if there's a waitlist you'll be at the top of it. And remember that with that - the notification date was extremely late this semester and a lot of people may have already taken up seats at different schools, so I doubt the class is going to be full with just the acceptances and some waitlisters will probably get spots. With your scores, you still may hear something!

I am so with you on this one, and I'm feeling pretty down in the dumps (I know it's only temporary until the official denials go out - just at the height of emotions right now), seeing that the likelihood of getting an acceptance at this point in time is very low.

With the same token, I am so, SO thankful for this thread because so many of you are great encouragers and supporters. I think this thread has both driven me crazy AND kept me sane lol! Just wanted to thank everyone for that. If you ever think your "extra" words aren't helping someone, know that they really are! At the moment, I'm trying to channel my worries into some leftover hope and planning my next steps for spring applications. :)

Congrats to everyone who has gotten acceptances! So exciting!!

@nrvhy So you think that the majority of acceptances have already been sent? :(

Yes, I agree. It is nice to not feel alone. I made an account just so I could share my disappointment with my fellow nurse hopefuls.

@pearl2020

thank you so much!! I am seriously so shocked. I really thought with my stats that I would for sure get accepted. Now, I really have no clue what they are looking for.

Hey ya'll,

I started a forum for Spring 2018: UT Health Science Center Houston if y'all wanna join during the next semesters admissions period. It's looking like thats gonna be the semester we are all gonna be focusing on as we move forward. This forum truly has been awesome. I've gotten to chat with a lot of really good people who have a true passion and drive to become nurses. I agree with @nrvhy on it driving me crazy at the same time. Haha. I found myself checking this forum as many times as I checked the myUTH portal (which was a lot). Have any of ya'll reapplied for the Spring already? I'm trying to get a move on and not wait as late as I did for this semester to apply. I barely made it.

@rnhopeful22 I'm glad you did! Just based on previous responses in this thread, it seems so. But until we actually get a notification of being waitlisted or denied, we will hold onto these last shreds of hope! í ½í¸…

We spent a lot of time on this forum trying to figure that out and it drove us crazy. Haha. Like pearl2020 said, they truly do accept people from opposite ends of the spectrum. I've come to believe that they put everyone who is qualified (meets all the criteria that is at least slightly above average) into a pile and just chooses. Haha. If they told me that it would make absolute sense.

Also remember that they had more applicants this semester then previous semesters. There were 1100 applicants at least and only 120 are chosen. The odds of us getting chosen are about 1 in 10 if everyone at least met the minimum requirements. Thats pretty crazy to think about.

Thanks will be looking for that forum. We can start applying for next semester already?

Awesome!

Yes. I already submitted my application and the yellow triangle of death popped up in the myUTH portal. However, I did ask one of the admissions counselors a while back (I guess they were feeling super motivated that day and decided to answer the phone) and she said that there is no need to resend all of the transcripts and HESI scores from the previous semester because they already have them. Unless of course you retake the HESI or take classes. Then you would have to send the most current one in.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a overall GPA of 3.95, pre req GPA of 4.0 and science GPA of 4.0. I have not heard anything back and I also have a previous degree. I was feeling confident in the beginning but now I am surprised and discouraged.

I am still hoping they are not completely done with sending out the acceptances!
