Hi all!
Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...
Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54
Science GPA: 3.67
HESI: 87.7
Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.
Hey everyone!
My name is Natalie and I am applying to UTHealth for the fall semester, I'm an lpn and I rememeber that being one of the questions on the application...I wonder why? I am super nervous about my application because I have more prerequistes to finish annnd going to take the HESI---any tips about that? Specific books that helped you guys? I'm open to anything! After reading everyones comments and stats i'm even more nervous.

Hey Natalie! When I studied for the HESI I used the elsevier hesi study book (thin purple one) and used youtube to freshen up on A&P. A good youtube channel for A&P is AnatomyGMC. The professor who makes the videos goes pretty in depth, but I found it helpful especially for the body systems I haven't learned yet (took the hesi before A&P II). For me A&P was the hardest but I think it's because I took the test before taking A&P II. I would also practice timing yourself. When I went in I thought I would have so much extra time, but I took the full 4 hours!
I know it sucks to compare your stats to everyone else but just remember there doesn't seem to be a real pattern with who gets in, so you never know!! Good luck on your test! You'll do great! :)
Hi, all!
I have a question about the UTH portal. I have finished all of my prerequisites and applied for Fall 2017 admissions. I have sent my HESI scores and transcripts with my prereq grades from my community college and university. However, I won't be receiving my bachelors degree until August. My university transcript still shows "in progress" classes, and as a result, my "To Do List" on the UTH portal shows that my application is incomplete, because I haven't sent a transcript with ALL of my final grades, even though my transcripts/HESI score/application is submitted. Is any one else having this issue? I think I'm just being paranoid, but I absolutely HATE that my application has been complete for months, yet is still listed as incomplete. I have tried contacting the UTHSC-H office, but have not gotten any clear answers. I'm assuming it's set up this way so I will remember to send a complete transcript, but I don't want something to go wrong and them not accept my application because it is marked incomplete, when every component is there.
ANYWAYS, after that long and somewhat confusing question/rant, I will share my stats!
Prereq GPA: 4.0
Science GPA: 3.75
HESI: 94.4%
Math: 98%
A&P: 92%
Reading Comprehension: 88%
Vocabulary: 98%
Grammar: 96%
I feel like the GPA and scores that I have are good, but I have read previous forums in which people had perfect scores and got denied. I guess we will see! Good luck everyone!!!

I absolutely know how you feel! I applied for the summer and also have an incomplete status because I am still finishing up some classes. That incomplete orange triangle was really stressing me out, so I gave them a call to make sure they are still going to review my application. They told me that it will remain incomplete until I send them a final transcript, but my application is still going to be reviewed if I meet all of the requirements. I also looked through previous admission cycles threads and this one; and it seems that we are fine, so do not stress too much about that!
Nobody really knows how they choose, they are being very secretive about everything concerning how they make decisions. There is no essay or interview. So you would think that they rank everyone by their stats. However, as you said, some people with perfect GPA do not get in, while some with average stats do. I think it is partially like playing a lottery. Anyways, best of luck to you and I hope all of us make it through!
Oh my... ya'll stats are so high. I'm feeling a bit less confident on mine. I don't even know if I will even have a chance anymore. Oh my. I received an 84.4 on my HESI, I wasn't planning on retaking it, because I thought it will be fine. but now I feel the need too.. UHH so much money. Anyways, I have a question regarding my application. So I've turned in everything, my transcripts I sent online, and I signed up for The hesi under their school code. I got everything done on January 23rd, yet when I check my to do list on myUth account, both the hesi and transcripts are still listed on my to do list. The status says initiated but what does that mean.... HELP.
My stats are:
Science GPA: 4.0
Current GPA: 4.0
My HESI: 84.4
Also I'm working as a part time CNA for a year now to get my experience in.
That orange triangle is a stressor! No worries, I had it dangling over me too & was still accepted. The only thing I wasn't able to do is register for classes until it was gone. But the whole cohort takes all the same classes so that isn't an issue at all. The only thing we all break up for is labs.
Your scores are great! What did you use to study for HESI? Any tips? Greatly appreciated!
I highly recommend the PocketPrep app for the HESI! It's around $13 but worth every cent. I knew all of those questions backwards and forwards and it helped me tremendously. I also made a bunch of HESI flash cards on Quizlet that I knew by heart. (Search l333uh on Quizlet and you should be able to find them). I started studying about 5 days before. It's not bad at all! Good luck!!!

I know with Lone Star, it's 60 days. With UT, I am not sure. If it's with two different school codes, I don't think it matters but I could be wrong. I would call. I do know though, that you can only take it twice under UT's school code- period. So, if you are going to do that, make it count!
As for studying, general consensus among test takers, myself included, was the study guide straight from the test makers is your best bet. That's the book I glanced through and since then, I have loaned it out to two people who have used it and did well.
Go to Amazon and search for "1455703338." That's the ISBN for the book so you know what it looks like (it's the purple and white one). It can be found dirt cheap on CL and ebay. Also, check out the threads here. There are MANY extensive write ups on what to expect and what to focus on for the test.
Good luck!
