Fall 2014- Traditional BSN

Published

I was just accepted to UTA as a student and just filled out the application for the traditional BSN program. I'm kind of worried that my stats might not be so great and wanted to see if anyone else has applied?

3.5 Science GPA

3.66 Overall

92 HESI

I am not partnered and I hadn't heard about that before I was on this site. I work full time in a non healthcare field.

I still need to take the three prerequisite classes (Pharmacology, Pathophysiologic Processes, Intro to Professional Nursing) at UTA, as well as Technical Writing, American History I, Texas Government, and College Algebra which should raise my overall GPA.

Any advice/ anyone else applying for Fall 2014?

Do they always put that many people on this or just this time since they accepted more people?

Haha! I hope so! I have no chance next semester if the competition is that fierce! Lol

Haha my GPA is slightly going down after this semester so I was really banking on getting in this time! :(

Ooh. Well if it's still pretty high you have a chance for the spring. The assistant dean said usually the spring semester has a less "robust" applicant pool.

I have seen other posts where lower gpa's were waitlisted. So since they accepted more this semester, my guess is that we are a bit higher on the list...but that's just me making an estimate.

How are you feeling about this, utamav? I want to feel confident, like I have a pretty good chance at getting a call, but then again I was sure I would be accepted, so. Have you thought about alternatives? I've taken all of the pre-reqs already, even the ones you don't have to finish until graduation (not required for the program itself), so I guess if I didn't end up getting called off, I would just take the semester off... Maybe take classes for other programs- nutrition, speech etc

I was also feeling confident about getting in this time. Im taking pharm and patho this summer. I dont have alternatives for other schools, I did think about taking other pre reqs but then that would be a big load this summer. So im just gonna stick with UTA and hope for the best.

Finished pharm yesterday, finishing patho tomorrow. It's been a lot! I managed an A in pharm and a most-likely B in patho.

Are they 5-week courses in the summer? I cannot imagine doing that much work in that small amount of time!

No. Theyre actually 11 week courses. I heard from others that you just have to dedicate time to them in the summer since it's so short and quick.

What other schools are you looking at?

Ok, that seems more manageable. Well, I'm from the Tyler area so I really could've stayed there after high school instead of moving up here... And I probably should have because I know I would've gotten in there! I guess that's my #1. Even though I don't REALLY want to move out of DFW back to east Texas. From what I've researched it seems nearly impossible to get in BSN programs as a transfer student... And of course the others are private, requiring religious courses, women's studies at TWU... To maybe not even get in :( I'm planning on re-applying with UTA for the spring, along with some ADN programs... Preferably El Centro. And then getting the BSN from there.

BUT. Hopefully we'll get called and won't have to worry about that :)

^^^and also apply for UT Tyler for the spring... Surely one of those will work out.

I've looked at ut tyler as well and they only require a couple more classes for their program. And they're application isn't due until some time in September I think (not sure.) Im just really praying I get called this time around.
