Fall 2018 Tarrant County College ADN program

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey guys 💜 just wanted to open a thread for Fall 2018 applicants at Tarrant County College ADN program! I know application cycle isn't open for about another month but I saw a few comments on the Spring 17 thread and thought we could have our own thread already!

I'm applying with the following:

A&P I: B

A&P II: A

Micro: A

HESI: 94.5

I can't wait to "meet" some of you on here and I've got my fingers crossed for all of us!

When I turned in my application they didn't even take that immunization form (even though I had wrote in my titer dates myself, no dr signature) because I had my own record with my titers I gave them a copy of. So I believe you don't need that form signed by a physician if you have other documents with your immunizations or titers.

I applied for the fast track option.

My scores are 2 Bs, 1 A, 89.5 HESI. I'm glad I'm applying to the fast track and not the regular track because you all have some crazy good scores!!

Hi there! I'm in the program now as well (2nd to last semester - woot!) and am happy to answer any questions :)

May I ask what your gpa and hesi score was that got you accepted into the program?

The portion on the application regarding the vaccines where it asks for signatures. Does anyone know if we're able to just have our regular pcp sign off on them even if we didn't recsive them there?

If you want, you can turn in all of your previous vaccine records to your current PCP who can validate and update your records. My doctor didn't fill out the form, he just signed it and attached my current, updated vaccinations on his office letterhead.

Once accepted, you'll eventually turn everything in to Immunitrax (you'll get instructions for paying your fee, signing in etc. later). You'll upload ALL of your vaccine documentation there for centralized tracking. You'll also get reminders for when your Flu, TB (or anything else) need to be re-done. Your documents will be carefully reviewed and approved/denied at that time. If anything doesn't check out, you'll get a message and not a lot of time to fix it. You can be prevented from attending clinicals if it's not taken care of! Like I said, a big part of the reason that you're asked about vaccines so early on, is the time it takes to complete the HEB A and HEP B vaccine series if needed.

Yes, of course you can - that's why I posted :). I had A's in all 3 sciences and a 98 HESI score - but don't be discouraged if your scores are lower! One of my favorite midnight-study-break-pastimes was logging on here and matching up the names/scores of previous classes (this was my "scientific" method for gauging my chances lol). I've seen people with a C and 2 A's get in because they had a killer HESI score. Of course, in the end, it really depends on the pool of applicants.

Now, if you don't make it this time, don't give up on your dream! I've met some amazing people who didn't let a setback stop them. I know someone that was an alternate TWO times, and didn't get admitted until her THIRD time applying to the program - and is thriving now! Plus, it's super competitive to get in, but becomes a family once you get here :)

Thank you for the advice! What is your weekly schedule like?

Ok - so this turned out MUCH longer than I expected lol - but you can refer back to it in the future :)

So, your first semester is Foundations/Fundamentals (those terms are kinda interchangeable)

There are 3 classes this semester: Skills, Clinicals and Theory. My schedule was:

*Tue: Theory from 1-4:50 (this is the class lecture part)

*Wed: Clinicals from 6:30a -3:30 pm (this is the day you wear scrubs at the hospital – but you'll stay on campus for the first 4 weeks to prepare)

*Thu: Skills from 9a-12pm (this is the "lab" part)

Some people were "lucky" and got Skills and Theory scheduled on the same day. Your schedule will be assigned to you, so once you're accepted I recommend you create a FB group. That will be invaluable for sharing information and swapping schedules. Finding someone to trade your ENTIRE schedule (not just 1 class) is the ONLY way you can change schedules!

Your Second semester will be Adult

From this point forward, you will only have TWO classes, Clinicals and Theory. My schedule was:

*Tue: Clinicals from 6:30a-6:30 pm

*Thu: Theory from 1-4:50

Your Third semester will be Mental Health (you start in the fall, so you'll attend Summer I session)

My schedule was:

*Mon & Tue: Clinicals from 6:30-3pm

*Wed & Thu: Theory from 9a-12pm

Summer is SUPER intense, I'd recommend taking PTO/vacation if you have a job!

Your Fourth semester is OB/Pediatrics

This semester is broken up into 2 sections of 8 weeks each. I had Pediatrics first so in January my schedule was:

*Wed: Theory from 10-1

*Sat: Clinicals from 6:30-6:30

Now for OB, my schedule is:

*Mon: Theory from 1-4pm

*Thu: Clinicals from 6:30-6:30

Your Fifth (FINAL) semester is Complex

I obviously don't have this schedule yet, but it will be much like Adult/Pedi/OB.

As you can see, there are weekend clinicals and I remember seeing "night" clinicals in Foundations that ran 2pm- 10pm (I think?). For Theory, there are Hybrid, and Face-to-Face options for all of the semesters (and I think Pedi/OB are the only ones that offer an ALL Online option). You can choose which semester you'd rather be in which. I've pretty much always elected the Hybrid option and love it – the one time I chose Face-to-Face I regretted it. However, you need to take into account YOUR learning style when deciding which method to choose!

Clinicals, of course, are NOT online lol! Aside from Foundations and Mental Health, you'll need to plan on 12 hour days for clinicals, so good shoes are a MUST.

So I'm a tad confused. I'm going through the checklist of things to be in the application and it says: Nursing Program Degree Audit (Web

Advisor) or

if transcript evaluation is not complete

,

you will

need to bring o

fficial transcripts and science course descri

ptions from other institutions.

C.

or documentation of graduation from high school with English speaking

country (if required).

They already have my transcripts from high school so I'm assuming this isn't something I need to somehow print and include? And I've done the audit but nothing happens, it just says OK after and I click on the OK. Is that it? I've put in an email regarding the audit. I know they've already got all of my classes from college before as I don't need to take anything else but I'm worried I'm going to screw something up!

I'm replying to my own post. LOL. I got the audit finished. I wasn't unclicking something.

@happyhubbub

Thank you for your time! I know that took time to construct.

I have a question for a anyone currently in the program. I noticed that for summer they offer Complex Concepts Adult Health. Who is allowed to take this class in the summer if anyone. I heard that certain student can take it for earlier graduation date. Is this true or not? Thanks

Went and turned my application in today. I was the 120th applicant. That seems kinda low but hey I'm not complaining.
