Published

Hi everybody?

i figured I start the next round for the Fall 2020 semester for SCCC Nursing! ?

Who else is applying? And what’s your TEAS/Rubric score?

Thank you! That's a great idea!

Hey everyone! Did anyone hear anything about orientation yet? I keep checking and I'm just nervous that I didn't get it when I was supposed to :x

@Kaitlyn P. I didn’t hear anything yet

@tina323 and @FutureRnMomof4 , I was wondering if you can share with us how the pandemic has affected your experience with nursing classes and clinicals. Thank you❤️

Hi @Busymama2

So it has been interesting for sure. Each class and campus are handling it slightly differently. Some professors have adapted more easily to distance learning. My lectures are done though Blackboard collaborate for my nursing class and Zoom for my Micro class. I meet for clinical pre and post conference on Blackboard Collaborate. Clinical is done at home through numerous assignments. We have not been physically going to clinical. The two lab proficiencies that we did not get to are being pushed to next semester, in some classes the students record themself and submit it. We take our exams at home on an app that shuts down your device and recorded you so that you can't cheat. Luckily before this happened we always had ATI and Coursepoint so we have all the materials we need to continue learning at home. I don't know anyone who feels like this has jeopardized their learning and everyone seems to be making the best of it. We are eager to get back to lab and clinical as those cannot truly be replaced online.

Just for reference I was accepted into the January 2020 start, attended orientation one month before, so I would anticipate that your orientation would be late July or August and that the pandemic is pushing back notification of that orientation.

@FutureRnMomof4 that’s a lot of changes; I hope you get to take your labs. I’m glad you’re making the best of it and thanks for sharing.

Hello everyone!! I just took the TEAS (for the 2nd time ever) virtually today (due to COVID-19), and I scored a 77.3% (LITERALLY 0.7 points away from getting advanced.. bummed is an understatement as advanced was all I wanted!). I've been overthinking all day about whether or not it's worth it to retake the TEAS again for what would be my 3rd time. I know of SCCC Nursing RN graduates who have gotten into the program with proficient TEAS scores (lower than mine). I was hoping if you all could give me a little feedback (and hopefully some encouragement) if I share my stats.

TEAS SCORE (2nd time around): 77.3% (0/25 points towards rubric score)

INDIVIDUAL TEAS SCORES (Max 48 points)

Reading Comprehension: 80.9% (10 points)

Math: 81.3% (10 points)

Science: 70.2% (8 points)

English/Language Usage: 83.3% (10 points)

SCORE: 38/48

RELEVANT COURSEWORK (Max 25 pts)

BIO 130: B (3pts)

BIO 132: B (retaken) (3pts)

ENG 101: B+ (3.5pts)

ENG 102: A (4 points)

BIO 244: Outstanding (I'm set to take it Fall 2020 at SCCC!)

MAT103: A (4 points)

SCORE: 15.5/25 points

ADDITIONAL COURSEWORK (1 point)

PSY 101 (0.25)

HIS 101 (0.25)

HIS 104 (0.25)

PHL 211 (Not taken)

SCORE: 0.75/1

TOTAL RUBRIC SCORE: 54.25

I appreciate it well in advance more than you all know.. these classes and tests are hard and challenging. I feel discouraged more than ever, since I've always been a 3.5 and above student; science has never been my strong suit. I hope everyone is staying safe and well during this COVID-19 pandemic!

My plan is to try for part-time just to see if I have a shot of getting in, and if I don't, then I'll retake the TEAS in November/December to try to get that advanced score.

This is a tough one. You have great grades. In the past the grades were sooo important and the TEAS wasn’t. Then they switched to putting so much weight on the TEAS. If you think you will study a lot more and that you will definitely get the advanced then it is worth it. I think most that got in these last couple of rounds had rubrics in the 70s, and an advanced score would boost your rubric significantly.

Thank you sooo much for this! I think I’m gonna retake it just to be safe..?

Honestly I would say if you financially can take it again go for it I felt that taking it the first time was great exposure and experience for my second attempt but you have better scores than I regarding the TEAS and I have array of grades for the prerequisites. But it’s always best to go with your gut!

To get into specifics this is the breakdown of my test scores (I don’t have the exact numbers but this were my scales)

reading 80-89%
math 90-99%
science 60-69%
english 50-59%

total =78 which placed me in advance

I would also suggest going to the nursing program orientation or email Andrea Bhella for a better understanding of your scores. I honestly thought I didn’t have a chance in heck but the orientation really put things in perspective and made me realize I had a shot and I took it! Best of luck

Thank you so much for this? I have run into a bit of an issue though. I have taken the TEAS already twice during this calendar year (one test through Nassau the last week of May and one test through Suffolk on June 1st). I took my first test through Nassau, and even though I haven’t submitted my scores from Nassau to Suffolk, I’m not sure if I can retake the TEAS one last time to get in for 2021. I’m not sure if the one test I took through Nassau counts as my first attempt, or if my test that I took yesterday through Suffolk is my second and last attempt for a full year? I’m super bummed. I have e-mailed everyone I can think of from Suffolk and still, nothing yet. I’m not sure if I have a second chance. Does anyone know if I have a second shot?
