Alright, I know it's early but...who is planning on applying to the Fall 2014 SSC/UCF Concurrent program? I just finished my prerequisites today and I'm so excited to get going. I am planning on taking the TEAS for the first time in January so hopefully I'll do well.
One question I have is what should I do during the spring semester? I completed my AA degree as of today but unfortunately, my family kind of relies on my FA money to get by. I'm wondering if there is an AS degree I can enroll in so that I'm still eligible for FA until the nursing program starts. I saw something for Health Information Technology that might work. Anyway, just thought I'd see who else is applying and if anyone else is in the same financial situation as me.
I hope to get to know some of you soon!
I know a lot of people who applied to both programs and I wouldn't be surprised if most of UCF's Basic program applicants also applied to the concurrent. (Fingers crossed that they didn't!) It would be so nice if we could use the background check that we had completed! Those really add up to a lot of money..
Do you mind telling us how much the background check costs? It would be nice to know how much I should plan on spending to prepare for the program.
Thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us. I know it's a competitive program but I think that camaraderie is beneficial for everyone - from what I've heard, the program is trying and I'm sure a good support system for everyone that gets in will be helpful.[/quote']
I totally agree! It will be nice to have already developed friendships with fellow students once the program starts.
The UCF basic program background check is $99 through the company certified profile. SSC uses a different company. If you are in the concurrent program then you use SSC's company ( I don't know the name of it ) if you know anyone currently in the program you may be able to find out. I'm guessing around the same price as UCF. It just sucks that some of us have to pay twice! You would think that the finger printing would transfer over. I have to say though... I've been warned about having to spend a lot of money in the beginning :/

I do know someone in the program, albeit not very well, but I'll try asking her. I am prepared to spend a lot of money, I'd just like to know how much is a lot. Like "3rd job"a lot, or "pick up a few shifts at my 2nd job" a lot? ?
Background(drug test, fingerprinting)- I'm guessing around $100-125
uniforms- I guess it's how many tops and bottoms you buy etc - $200 and up
immunizations- I know some shots are expensive (hopefully everyone has insurance)
Books- $200-500 depending if you barrow, rent or buy
tuition- I have no idea maybe $1500-2000
Again, these are estimates... Hopefully I'm close! Start saving! That's what I'm doing :)

I still have to get two more shots for the Hep B series and those run $70/dose at the health department.
Has anyone heard anything about how many applications were submitted at the Sanford campus? I live near there and I realized too late that I should have stopped by just to take a peek at the list on Friday.

OK- This might be a stupid question, but I've Googled and cannot find what I'm looking for. I've found UCF's general required immunizations but can't find anything specific for the Nursing program.. Does anyone know the additional ones that we will need? Also, I'm going to get my BLS in a few weeks. get that out of the way.
I think they send us the list once accepted to the program. I know they want us to have the basic ones MMR and Hep B series (the ones that you submitted to be accepted to UCF) and annual ones like the flu and TB test. Also, varicella(2 doses) and Tdap(good for 10 years) are needed to be able to participate in clinicals. Hope that helps.

Thanks Lee!
I hope I'm not jinxing myself by even asking...but, your future is what you believe it to be so think positive thoughts right!?...I thought it would be helpful to try to pick up items required for the program here and there when I spot sales or good deals...has anyone seen a list or heard what exactly would be required for the concurrent program? I know somewhere on the UCF site I saw that we would need a watch with a second hand and all white, non-skid, all leather shoes...has anyone heard of any other requirements/specifics for uniforms or supplies?
