Fall 2020 El Centro Nursing Program Applicants

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to start a new thread for Fall 2020 applicants at El Centro, since I didn't find one already here. Let's see if we can help eachother out and answer some questions for eachother. Currently, I have 35 points, but will be applying with about 40, I believe. I'm wondering if that is competitive? Also, I need to get my physical, titers, and vaccines, but don't have health insurance. Any ideas where I can get them done at a decent price? I found a website but I am not sure if they will accept stuff from there....

Hey y’all!

Just found this thread while I was googling the average points of nursing applicants for El Centro. I wish they had something that gave an idea of what a competitive score would be!

I’m a Fall 2020 applicant to El Centro (Northlake and El Centro campus). I have 40 points and am hoping that’s enough to get me accepted!

I had some trouble with the immunization/titers. Just FYI, the dean said if you’ve already had the immunization but have a low titer, they will accept the low titer and one dose of the immunization that the titer was low in. That helped me out since I wasn’t expecting a low titer and didn’t have enough time before the application deadline to receive the two doses.

Good luck to you all!!

40 should definitely be enough to get accepted! I'm applying with 36 points for North Lake. When you say you had trouble with your titers, was castle branch not accepting the documents online or something?

@shauntil07 I hope this is the right way to reply. I am new to the allnurses platform, so I'm not 100% sure how to work it ? Let's just say, I'm not very tech savvy.

I'm glad to hear 40 will be competitive! I have no clue what the average applicant score is ?‍♀️ But I'm glad your and my score is considered competitive!!

So, in regards to the titers, I had just assumed, since I had already received all the required immunizations when I was younger that I would have positive titers. So, when I got my test results and saw I was low in MMR and Varicella, it was too late to have enough time to get the two required doses by the application deadline. But, according to the dean, a low titer and one dose will be sufficient, thank goodness! BUT on CastleBranch, it still shows as rejected since it technically doesn't meet the requirements El Centro gave Castlebranch. So that's a little nerve wracking, even though I have an email from the dean saying it would be ok.

Ah, I see. Well I'm glad they were able to clear that up for you. Yes, I will be going to the Paramount building tomorrow to turn everything. I'm so excited. After January 31, the wait begins!

Good luck!!! Yes, the wait will be the hardest, I'm sure. Did you apply anywhere else?

Yes, I am applying to Brookhaven, Texas A&M Commerce and I was looking at applying to Texas A&M Corpus Christi but I don't think I will make the deadline for everything. I am also applying to Tarrant County's ADN and LVN as sort of a backup so I've got a few applications to turn in.

I applied to Commerce for Fall 2019! But I have one C in the prerequisites and they wouldn't take that. Keep me updated on your journey! I've applied to TWU (I meet the requirements, but after reading everyone's admission scores it seems I'm not very competitive) and am applying to Navarro and Tarrant County.

I would retry for Commerce again (unless you aren't able to retake that class in time). I have to retake my micro and stats because they have C's. I talked to an advisor about it and she said as long as they are completed by the application period (i.e. May 2020) and also if you have no more than two classes in progress at the time which in this case is just the stats and micro, then its okay to apply. She said they will use the GPA for the other four classes which are all B's for the application deadline. So my GPA's not high but my HESI is. I wonder what portions they will weigh more on? A mixture of both GPA and HESI?

So I’m also turning in my application tomorrow. I’m also applying to Paris Junior College and Grayson and El Centro if the others don’t work out. I’m so determined to start school this fall so I needed lots of options.

That's what I'm doing. Trying not to put all my eggs in one basket.

Exactly. I really don’t wanna have to end up doing an LVN program because it’ll take even longer to get my BSN which is my ultimate goal. But that’s life. I’m just glad I’m still kind of young because I’ve been itching to start a family.

Does anyone plan on working while going to school?
