Hi All! ?
I just wanted to start a thread for those trying to apply to College of the Desert for Fall 2020. At this point, all that's left for me is to take the TEAS, double check that my science classes will be accepted and that they'll accept my communications class. I'm nervous and excited all at once! Any tips or advice people have heard about the program? Any other random information or tid bits that people know about the program is welcome too! ?
Thank you!
I'm not taking the test until August, so going to spend the Summer studying. Going to join that facebook group as well.
I actually haven't taken Chemistry, so I better try to get a jump on that.
Good luck to you as well! ???Wish they could tell you sooner, instead of making you sweat all this time!

Not yet, I was told in July! don't worry.
I would let everyone know that is using a student email with this school that if you aren't currently enrolled in courses and want to continue the use of the student email. Continue to apply for the following semesters as they pass. I was checking my student email every day and my email shut down. Luckily I caught it quick and received help to reactivate asap.

YAAAAY! Congrats and thanks for telling us about the process!
Hi,
I wanna give encouragement to anyone who is still in the process. This is not my 1st merry-go-round. I applied to schools in New York, Nevada, you name it. It's been a few years and the COVID crisis added a year onto my wait. All I'm saying is all things are possible with hard work and persistence and faith. I believe God has been with me all along and that has helped me persevere. I am thrilled to have a school to go to for Fall 2021, but am worried about affordable housing.
I have had a REALLY rough time living with family trying to save money for this nursing journey and just burned out. I need my own space. I feel it will help me excel in my studies. In any case, I am concerned about how expensive housing in Palm Desert is since my goal is to live on my own (haven't done that in years and I miss it). I may consider roommates in a crunch, but am just not sure. After all the family drama in my life, I just was hoping on my own space. I am willing to live in a studio or casita/back house. I just need to keep a low budget because I wanted to try (if I can) to not work through nursing school. But that makes it hard to find a place to rent since I lost my job as they were not supportive of my nursing journey (Long story).
I guess in short, I am reaching out to see if anyone knows of some affordable housing options with folks that will work with where I am. I have money saved, but am not currently working and with school starting so soon it seems silly to start something (don't wanna burn bridges). Anyway, thanks for "listening."

Hello! I was wondering if you applied to COD for Spring 2022 admission? If you did do you mind sharing your stats with me? Since the point system changed my points got a lot lower and I am very worried about not getting in. I would love to talk to you if you applied

So, yeah- they totally changed the point system! If I calculated everything correctly, I'm at 67. I got above a 90 on my TEAS, which I did not expect, and that gave me a bit more of a cushion.
I submitted my application and got the confirmation email, so now it's time to wait.
How about you?

Hi!
Well, the application deadline was April 30th and most programs take 1 to 3 months to make their admissions decision. COD said to wait til like some time in June or July. The waiting is HARD! ugh! But I'm glad I FINALLY got my app off. Taking the TEAS was the hardest because right when I thought I was ready to test COVID hit and my life got turned upside down. I am glad I had to wait though b/c I had NO CLUE what to study or HOW to study. I THOUGHT I was studying enough, but no way! The best thing I did was join the Nursehub facebook group to get info on HOW to study for the TEAS. There is no ONE study manual that gives you the amount, breadth, and intensity of info that you need to pass that test w/ a competitive score. The closer you can take your TEAS to completing your A&P, Chemistry, etc THE BETTER. I cannot stress this enough. B/c of COVID, it was a year after taking A&P that I took the TEAS and it made it WAY more difficult b/c you forget things. It took me about 6 months to study, but if you start studying for the TEAS right after your A&P classes you can take the TEAS test sooner & won't need a full 6 months to study probably. Good luck to you!
