Fall 2021 College of the Desert

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi All! ?

I just wanted to start a thread for those trying to apply to College of the Desert for Fall 2020. At this point, all that's left for me is to take the TEAS, double check that my science classes will be accepted and that they'll accept my communications class. I'm nervous and excited all at once! Any tips or advice people have heard about the program? Any other random information or tid bits that people know about the program is welcome too! ?

You have a good chance (in my opinion) of getting in. A LOT of people drop.

Do you know they ever let people who have theory on specific days say like mon/wed also do clinical/labs on the same day as the other cohorts?

Like being able to do all in 2 days versus the 4 days?

Absolutely not. The schedule is the schedule and you have to adjust your life accordingly. No choices unfortunately. Also, what you are suggesting isn't possible given the amount of assignments you have to go with your clinicals. You'll see.

Interesting, OK cool thank you for the honest information.

Any recommendations on adjustments? For those who are sole providers for family? It looks like the given time frames don't allow time to work a job. I'm curious how others have achieved this. I definitely don't want to miss this opportunity but it may not be one that I have a choice.

You could maybe get a loan to bridge the gap of the lost income. It sucks, but it will be worth it in the long run!

Yes that seems like the direction it's pointing in. Thank you for the recommendation! It's definitely worth it in the long run. ?

Also, while. I'm here: I've been wondering about the dresscode and what to buy besides the scrubs and uniform.

I have tattoos on my wrist and forearms, so I guess I'll need to wear some sort of long sleeve to cover them?

Also, for class days, are there any rules or recommendations for black pants and shoes to get? I don't own anything like that, so I would love to start shopping, but don't want to buy anything that won't work!

I heard that Costco has Black jogger pants. Koi is pricey, but a good brand. So are the Skechers brand scrubs. I am not really an expert on the Black pants. I personally just purchased the Scrub Star brand from Wal-Mart because I already knew how that brand would fit me, but they aren't very practical and I always have to pull them up, especially if I put stuff in the pockets. I recommend that you try on the pants with stuff in your pockets (as much stuff as possible) squat, bend, stretch in those pants because you want to make sure you can move and do the skills you need to do. That is what I should have done.

Also, the majority of my class bough the "clove" medical sneakers. People got a white pair and a black pair. Just email Miss Kinsey to find out if she will still approve those sneakers for your cohort. I STRONGLY recommend that you INVEST in your feet! Don't try to save pennies here!
