Fall 2010 Classes!!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I'm so excited for school to start! So I thought it would be cool to see what everyone is taking. I'm sure many of us have some of the same classes!:yeah:

Me:

A&P I/Lab

Chemistry/Lab

Nursing Concepts

Intro to Nursing Theory

Intro to Nursing Clinical:uhoh3:

Total Hous: 17

Start Date: August 25:nurse:

I totally agree for the first year student(from personal experience) It is not like a regular class. There is so much information being thrown at you for one test. That is why they say it is one of the toughest courses out there.

WOW!! I feel bad about being stressed about my fall schedule now :lol2:

Anyways, here is what I have:

Microbiology 3 credits

Micro Lab 1 credit

Nursing Technology 1 & Lab 8 credits

It's going to be busy- but I'm excited!

I took micro it was very interesting and I even took it at home and great bacteria in my office lol are you taking it online

OP- I'm excited for you! I'm just wrapping up my first term. They started us off easy (it is Summer, after all)-

NRS 512- clinical skills I (with only 16 clinical hours in a nursing home. 6 lab hours every week, except for the week we had clinicals)

NRS 515- Pharmacotherapeutics.

NRS 516- Professional Role Development I (a one day per week, one credit class)

All for a total of 6 credits (I don't remember how they're divided between pharm and clinical skills.)

Pharmacotherapeutics has been brutal- though the fact that I've been working as a medication aide for 4 the past 4 years helps.

Fall term will be a lot more intense. I'll be taking:

NRS 511- Physiological Nursing

NRS 513- Pathophysiology

NRS 518- Mental Health Nursing

NRS 536- Professional Role Development II

I'll have a med/surge rotation at Providence Portland Medical Center and a mental health rotation at the Portland VA hospital. I'm pretty excited about both. There's also some lab hours associated with NRS 511. I'm glad that my financial aid package covers my entire cost of attendance- including my total living expenses- so I don't have to work while going to school like I did while I was completing my prerequisites. I try not to think about how much debt I'll be when I finish.

I love my nursing program so far- I have awesome faculty and classmates. And we got to play with needles today! We practiced with a variety of SQ and IM syringes on an injection pad. They were nice and let us use a 25 guage, 1/2" needle when we practiced IM injections on each other.

NSG 100 (Pharmacology I -- we have 3, each 1 credit)

.

That's a pretty sweet deal- they crammed our pharm course into one term- a short term at that. And the professor wasn't available for the first week of Summer term, so that cut the length of the class by an additional week.

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Flight.

i took Pharm over the summer, so that lightened my load a bit but here is my fall schedule:

Definitely. I'm quite happy since here on Allnurses everyone says how hard/jam packed pharm is, but the people I know in my program have said pharm isn't bad.

The first semester of my final year- woo hoo!!

Psych (online, full semester)

OB (1/2 semester)

Peds (1/2 semester)

Peds, Maternal/Infant, Research, & the second half of Med-Surg :) I'm really excited about Peds & OB!

Definitely. I'm quite happy since here on Allnurses everyone says how hard/jam packed pharm is, but the people I know in my program have said pharm isn't bad.

The material isn't bad- it's just when it's all crammed into a short period of time that it can be overwhelming. Fortunately, my professor's tests aren't all that difficult- the thing I keep reminding myself of is that as long as I understand the basic physiology behind how different medications work in the body (and I had a pretty good grasp on physiology when I took A&P during my prereqs), I will be fine in practice because I will be looking up specifics in the drug book anyway. In any case, it looks like I'll be getting an A in the class unless I bomb the final.

Due to a lot of time spent getting core basics and pre req's out of the way, my first semester of nursing school is going to be a pretty light schedule, since out of the 19 credit hours that are scheduled, I have already taken 10 credit hours. Woo Hoo Me!! :yeah::yeah::yeah:

As it stands now, my schedulre is:

Clinical - RN Training 7a - 7p (4 credit hrs)

Nursing Skills Lab - 9a - 12p (1 credit hr)

Foundations of Nursing Practice 9a - 2p (4 credit hrs)

Being a non-traditional student, I am psyched to get started on this dream. Orientation is the 17th - 18th with classes starting on the 25th. I can't wait!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm starting this fall at bcc. I'll be taking:

CHM 02 intro to chem

CMS 11 fund of communication

SOC 11 intro to soc

PEA 12 yoga

still need need chem17, phm10, and bio23 before I can apply to the nursing program but they don't have any open sections for transfer students. Very frustrating!
