Hello all you beautiful RN's or soon-to-be RN's.:loveya: I just wanted to begin a new thread for all CCAC students who are applying to the program for FALL 2010. It should be exciting, we will be applying in only a couple of weeks!!!

Wow! Thank you, Don. I really appreciate all of the information.

If you are a poor student (most are)

I will add a few things about the books... The initial sticker shock for NRN 101 books is just that. 102 books are about 250-300 and a good portion of the 101 books carry forward, as does 102 to 202 and so on.

You can find them cheaper, a lot in fact and ironically directly from the publisher. Some texts you can get away with last years version from Amazon or eBay for next to peanuts. Some you can rent, and that is okay too. It depends on your comfort level to be honest. You will not miss anything by buying a used/rented/old nursing book in 101. You will know which one's you should buy when you get the book list, so don't stress about the cost. You have better things to stress out about.

Stethoscope, don't go super cheap, you need one with a bell (you have ped's in 102) and will use the bell in 101. Don't go an buy the gold plated one either, things will have a tendency of walking.

If anyone has questions, just ask.. there are plenty of current CCAC nursing students that watch these threads to help out. We were in your shoes once, we know what it's like.

Congrats!! I was accepted at South! So excited!!

I too was accepted to South (Day Program) What a relief!

DonK/others: I'm looking for info about the flexibility of the program. I dropped out of Shadyside because I am a VERY single parent (no shared custody/visitation, no family in the area), and things really just were not working out for me there as a working mom. What time is the earliest clinical? Do you know how old transfer credits can be accepted from?

It looks like, if I finished at CCAC, I'd be taking 1 course per semester most semesters as I have a previous degree and all the gen ed-type courses covered (and A&P, Micro, etc out of the way from Shadyside). This would be much more do-able for me, I think, if I can swing it financially. If I even want to be a nurse anymore (which is a whole other matter. . .).

I got accepted to south day!!!!!!!!!!! soo excited! :hpygrp:

Congratulations, everyone!

Congratulations Everyone:yeah:

ROBOT,

I don't know how the nursing program works but there are others on this thread that are already in the program that can help you more. Sorry to hear that things didn't work for you at Shadyside the nursing program at CCAC from what I hear is more flexible so it should be a better fit for you so don't get discouraged. Also I did apply for Shadyside and wanted to know if you had any nursing books for sale I'm finishing up my prereq's now at CCAC.
