Fall 2010 applicants for ccac

Published

Hello all you beautiful RN's or soon-to-be RN's.:loveya: I just wanted to begin a new thread for all CCAC students who are applying to the program for FALL 2010. It should be exciting, we will be applying in only a couple of weeks!!!

message me and good luck to ALL!!!

I don't know but, if you applied to CCAC have you received an acceptance letter yet? I am getting news from a friend that letters have been recieved and I've got nothing yet. I was not excited anymore about CCAC yet, I would be disappointed to not get an acceptance cause you've got to take what you can get. And to my surprise, St. Margaret is now switching over to the PSB and they have changed their application around. Now, youi must register first. I am REALLY hoping that I at least got a 65 on the stupid math section for Shadyside cause that can transfer over to St. Margaret or Mercy. So now, all the UPMC hospital school are using the PSB. What a world!

To mcRN2b,

You had to have had doubts before you put your application in with CCAC you keep saying what you heard or what someone told you. Just what exactly is the point of talking about Shadyside if your still waiting on results honestly if you heard all these different things from other people someone should have told you to apply for more than one program at a time. And you do have to do what's best for you only you can make that decision the longer you wait the more harder it will be to get into any school. Also I took my pre req's at Boyce and I had excellent teachers you can't expect one school to be the same as other's you will have different teachers, clinical instructor's etc....If you really want to be a nurse you can make it through any school they are not going to pamper you. You have to work hard for what you want and diploma schools are recognized across the country they sit for the same boards as everyone else so they are recognized I know at least here most of the diploma schools if you go there you will recieve college credit. But right now you need to accept the letter if you get one you can always go back and get your BSN no matter if it takes 26 credits or 36 credits:)

To mcRN2b

hey, you said you know people that have gotten their acceptance letters?

Did they get into the program or rejected? I'm just wondering, because nobody i know has gotten a letter yet.

Thanks

I talked to two separate people today that were both called and offered seats. They were told their first and second choices were full but there were seats at another campus they could take.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a letter one way or the other yet.

Are these people new students? or returning students?

Both students currently attend CCAC South and this is their first time applying for the nursing program. One student currently holds a degree in an unrelated field. :)

Wow, thanks for that info... I am surprised to be honest, but not that surprised. I am surprised that a campus is still open for 101 with 700+ applicants.

All I can say, I'd recommend whatever campus they chose, they keep quiet!

No problem! I was shocked to hear that they got these calls. I didn't know that calls like that were even possible. One person was offered her choice of 3 different seats! (2 at same campus 1 day, 1 night) and a night seat at another. The other student was only given one option.

I read here that there were 700 applicants so again I am shocked about the calls. I'm also a little jealous. Although I do hope this means I got in my first or second choice and not rejected!

The calls supposedly under the new dean were eliminated, that was "the old program". You know, where it counted as much as WHO you knew versus how well you did.

Since Allegheny tends to fill up first, that eliminates them! North and Boyce, surprised but not really. I hope they chose North! Boyce can be a long miserable 90 minute drive from the south hills area!

Regardless, I am guessing they accepted, so they are in and that is all that matters. Getting in is 1/2 the battle, the next battle is jumping through all the hoops by the deadlines they will be giving you!

As I was told last fall, 20% of the applicants are rejected because their application is incomplete, that is a average that they have EVERY year. The fun now starts, make sure to check out last springs thread, there is a ton of info there on what to hoops you will be expected to jump through. It is better to be prepared than surprised.

Thank you for your advice.

I'm on my phone right now but I will check out the thread in the morning. I seriously hope I hear something about my own fate sometime soon.

I am not telling you where they chose (the same campus) but you would be surprised.

:hlk:

this is how i feel, waiting for this letter that holds my fate......

Here, so you don't have to look through 39 pages...

one thing I need to strongly suggest...

COPY EVERYTHING, KEEP A COPY, they can and will lose some peoples stuff.

- CPR Certification it's like $85 from Red Cross if you don't have it. Allegheny (CCAC) offers it for $50 bucks, many firehouse's offer it as well for a fraction of that. It is BLS for health care workers, you CANNOT use the online version. Don't rush to get it, it has to last the two years or you have to re-take it just to graduate.

- FBI Background Check $36 need to go to a print center and get your prints taken

https://www.pa.cogentid.com/index_dpw.htm

- PA State Background Check $10 online

https://epatch.state.pa.us/RecordChe...jsp?action=new

- PA Child Abuse Clearances $10 need to mail in a form that will be in the packet

- Drug Test. Isn't covered by health insurance. Ask your Dr.'s office how much. I know Jefferson Hospital is the cheapest at $35 and Concentra Medical Centers is $60

- TB PPD test and record of Immunizations form to be filled out by your PCP, if you need immunizations the county health department has them. The rates vary, but 20-30 bucks sounds about right and you need titers as well for some.

Uniforms will be purchased at the orientations and they will have fittings. For one whole uniform lab coat and warm up jacket you're looking at $100 - $200 depending on what size you need.

We need white nurse tennis shoes NO CLOGS. Or white tennis shoes with no lines patterns or other colors. We need small bandage scissors, a pen light, a watch with a second hand, and of course a stethoscope. We DON'T need a BP cuff but it would be good to have one to practice with especially if you have no training with one like me lol. I got all of my stuff off ebay today.

The textbooks won't be available until 2 weeks before class. There are required texts and recommended texts. The required ones come in a prepackaged set for NRN students. It's about 10 books and it's like $650. Some say it's easier to find the books somewhere else separately but the nursing dept. doesn't reccommend it because you will be needing the discs and bonus material included with them. We also must purchase a CCAC health tote bag which is $90 freakin dollars! From the bookstore (this is for South and Boyce)

Other than that I think I covered the basics you'll know more when you get your packet.

this is the thread, there are other hint's/suggestions that may be beneficial.
