Failing out of nursing school at the end

I failed Community health due to some issues I had. It has been the ******** feeling I have been going through for 2 months. I tried to appeal to the committee and also to the president, but no luck. I was suppose to graduate next week and it just ***** sucks... I am out of the program due to this is my 3rd time failing out. Nursing school has a rule where you cannot fail 2courses then you fail out. Due to testing anxiety I failed out but got readmitted. This time around I was maxed out of my financial aide student loan and I was just so caught up in working to make bills and tuition, I was burnt out.  I had two courses left to receive my BSN,

I have all my clinical hours completed besides community and capstone.

I am trying to challenge the nursing board to get my CNA and LPN. Not sure if I need my CNA license before my LPN to take, but any advice would be great. Thank you in advance. I am located in Arizona and planning to move back to California.

Hi,

First off, I am so sorry for what you’re going through. I felt the same exact way when I got dismissed from school for not passing with for myself the 76% mark. And since I have failed 2 courses before there was no exception. I failed due to a lot of anxiety problems psychologically with test taking & my uncle recently passed away. Before that my dad passed out and was internally bleeding around finals. I went appealed in front of the committee, the dean, & fought to speak with the president of the school. In the end it still ended with a, “Sorry there’s nothing we can do for you.” This was about a year ago and I probably post this forum a couple days after not passing. I was a hot mess..My school is a for profit school, so nothing was going to transferred & my next option was appealing to sit for LVN test. Due to covid restrictions, there was a delay in my approval to sit for the LVN exam in California.

I decided to look into the community route. I reached out the the dean of all the community here in Maricopa county community college to see if there was any possible way I can apply for the nursing associates program here. She agreed to meet with me and here out my story. She told me to just take the HESI test, score high enough to be competitive and although it is a 2 year wait to get into the ADN program I was an exception. Lone behold, I scored 94% on my HESI, applied for all of the community colleges &  within 2 months I was accepted to the nursing program to enroll in block 2.

Although, my story I share with you I was one of the exceptions, I challenge you to do your research and see what are you options if you could take a community route. Do a lot of research and ask questions. In AZ, you can get your LVN and then test into an accelerated ADN program or get into block 3 for the traditional ADN and bypass block 1&2 depending on your test scores. If you still want to be a nurse keep researching and see what your options are. It ***en sucks to retake nursing courses again believe me, but if you’re passionate about it, you keep trying. And if you decide to close this chapter and want to do something else, it’s okay too.

Sending lots of love your way. ??

May I know how did you apply for LVN test? From LVN can you become RN?

You would have to apply to a bridge program LVN to RN.

If you live in CA there’s an option that you can choose to challenge to sit for your NCLEX LVN license. You have to be able to reach out to your school and have the dean sign off all your clinical hours and courses that equivalent with the courses they are looking for to be able to see if you’re eligible to apply for.

I live in New York. Do you know if any board of challenge policy for LVN/LPN in New York? I passed all the classes except critical care, I even done the capstone, research and every other class.

My total GPA is 2.75 ABSN program. But Last&final semester GPA is 2.6. That's why I dismissed from the program.

Thank you.

I don't think you are going to be able to do this.  Question 11 from the NY State Office of the Professions Frequently Asked License Questions.

Quote

I was a student in an RN education program but did not graduate. Am I eligible to take NCLEX-PN to become licensed as an LPN?

Answer: No, you must be a graduate of a nursing education program acceptable to the New York State Education Department to be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN to become licensed as an LPN.

While there are some states that allow this, it is doubtful that you would be allowed to endorse this license into NY.  Response to question 10.

What are the requirements for becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New York?

Answer: To be licensed and registered as an LPN in New York State, you must:
[...]
4.  be a graduate of a nursing education program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED)

Best wishes.

Thanks for responding to this answer and yes IDK about ny rules, but my friend went to a school in ny and their rules are different. Most likely if the school you didn’t go to was a public or a nonprofit private school that courses are transferable 90% you have to retake a lot of courses over even if you were almost done. I had 1 class left and I had to take courses over when put me back 1.5 years before graduating since I was suppose to graduate in last August. I hope this answers your question. And you, yourself need to do your own further research to see what your next steps are since I am not from your state and they have different rules.

Please note that, while in your thread, my post was in response to @Mimi321, as he or she posted a question regarding challenging the NCLEX PN in NY.  As I quoted her or his post I thought it obvious.

While general education courses will typically be accepted in transfer, nurses courses rarely do; with the possible exception of transfers between schools in the same university system.

Sorry, I'm not the one with the question.

Yes, thank you.  Having been a nurse 24 years and being licensed in 5 states, I'm aware that rules and requirements vary from state to state.

?? I was just replying to @Mimi321 question if you’re well aware that’s fine I was just responding to her questions on my forum.

Yes, If there is a seat available from someone who withdrew/failed this is a very viable option. I am glad she heard your story.
