Can anyone assure me that I stand a chance getting into nursing school (in about 2 1/2 years) and later CRNA school since I'm failing my first anatomy class and will have to re-take it next semester......I'm terrified!!!!
Thanks:o
what i found very helpfull was search engines i went on yahoo and typed ex: anatomy quizzes or integumetary quizzes for instance and a wak load of practice quizzes would come up. after i studied i would do a variety of tests and study my results by reviewing the questiions that i got wrong i was able to work on my weakness and i did notice much improvement. first semester i just passed the program not knowing about the site until the last two tests though but second semester i got a big old A. hopefully this helps,
good luck, funky

I do not understand the above statement. What schools did this person apply to? ..... Quote Morgan
Amy is right, while this may not be the case with all of the schools it is the case in Dallas. I was one of the applicants who did not make it into the spring program because I got a B in A & P. I had A's in all other classes, but the B excluded me from an invitation to this particular nursing school. It may just be the Dallas metroplex but this is not uncommon of the majority of the ADN programs.
This is why I am pursuing my BSN, in the amount of time I will be in school waiting to be accepted to an ADN, I can finish with my BSN. (Where's the logic in that?)
Hi! Hang in there. I struggled thru A&P also. Thought I was going to fail my first time. Several people dropped out/failed A&P 1 and 2. I found the professor can have alot to do with the way you learn. Start asking around to try to find out who they think is the better teacher. Next, try to get a study group together. This can help also. If you think A&P is tough wait till you get in nursing school. It's harder and much more stressful. BUT...you can do it if it's what you really want. I'm an A student in all my classes but the Biology classes. I struggled thru both A&P, taking at least one other class with it with alot of personal stuff going on. Just a little incentive....I too thought of quitting...but it was something I'm in my first year, first semester of nursing school. I struggle but...I am here to stay unless I fail. It has been a battle....I am 44 yrs. old, have a child who lost most of his vision to Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a daughter who is epileptic, the man I have had home with for 10 yrs. and daughter with has been cheating on my the past year, I recently lost my father, my mother has been really ill, my son the legally blind child got arrested this year, he was defending himself most of this happened within the past 6 mths. I continue to struggle but I guess if I can get thru all of this personal stuff and still pass I can do just about anything. I guess what I am trying to say if this is something you really want you will find a way to get thru it. Try not to let it discourage you. Next time you take A&P you should be much further ahead then others. Their is alot of memorization, something I am not good at. Your not in Pa. by any chance are you? I have handouts my teacher gave for each chapter we went over. We had to look up the answers ect. but it really helped. Thank goodness he went by those questions on the final because I did great that it really helped my grade. I would start asking around at your school to see if their is another professor that is known to be very good. If you know one of the people you register with is really nice or a counselor...go to them and ask. Tell them you need to find a professor that might be better for you. The way your taught will affect the way you learn. Let me know how your doing. You can email me at [email protected]
Everyone,
Thank you for such encouraging words. I was a bit down about the class, but since I wrote the email, I looked at it as being a wake-up call for me to quit whining, quit complaining and do what I have to do! The Lord promised me that he would be here for me, but he didn't say that it would be easy-- I guess I didn't "really" realize that.
Thank you All!

Its like that at most ADN programs that I know of. I know at my school if you dont make A's you are not getting in. They are having to tell people to go back and retake classes they got B's in to try to up their GPA! This is certainly not uncommon for ADN programs.
Most semesters there are about 300 people applying for 20 spots.

When I first started at the University, for my BSN, there were several science pre-req's. A 3.0 accum. gpa was requrired, in all science classes to get into the program.
One of theese science classes, was called "Structrue and Function". Every day, 7:45 am. The hardest class I ever took! I got a D the first time I took it, and had to re take it.
As a result, it took me one year longer to enter the nursing program. I am now in my 5th and final year of nursing school, and am sooooooooo happy that I did not just give up!
So stick with it!!!!!!:roll

Lanitra, although there is a dearth of nursing intructors, you must remember that there are tons of programs that would love your money in their rn program. It may not be UWashington or Boston College, but you can earn your RN through a myriad of avenues, including getting good grades in an ADN program, skipping the bachelors in nursing (you need a bachelors in a related field in roughly half the programs) all together and going straight for your masters when you go to anesthesia school. Or if you must have a BSN, as some programs require...you can do an adn to bsn program in a lot of schools...even correspondence.
I would definately retake Anatomy and aim for an A, but if you get an A-, or B+, for chrisake, moveon and ace ochem or statistics instead to make up for it.
Frank Netters Atlas of Human Anatomy is a good book with many cartoons / schemas that helped me in Anatomy. Good luck, and don't beleive the negative hype...where there is a will, there is a way.
