Hello to everyone, I failed boards again for the 3rd time. I took Kaplan thinking it was go help but again another failure. I don't know where to go from here and all I do is cry. I am neglecting my children by not spending time with them. I don't know what to do or how to start. I prayed each time and still not doing good. I took 265 everytime and still bad news. Can someone that been in my shoes give some good study advice. It's costly to retake especially if it's just you finacially. Someone please help. During nursing school I been through alot, I lost my husband but I went back and graduated. It's been a year and all my classmates working and happy. I am so depressed about my results, that I feel like it's not for me. But than I say if it wasn't for me I wouldn't made it to graduate. Help please.
Hello,
I just recently took the NCLEX RN for the first time and used the Hurst Review online program. After each video section I spent the time and did a min of 100 questions from the Saunders CD. One week before my test date I concentrated mainly on the Saunders. Did the assessment test, printed out the results and went back and started reviewing on the areas that had a below 80%. The test is hard but you can pass it. Just take your time and look at the questions and ask your self what can the nurse do to help this person. Look at the ABC's, who is bleeding, who just had surgery. On the Med questions it may help to learn what the meds are for. A lot of times you can tell this just by their names. Make a quick list and stick it on your bathroom mirror, in your purse, refrig door. The more you see the list the more you will remember.
Hope this helps some and best wishes to you.
Hello;
I have been in your shoes. I graduated in 2007 and I failed the boards twice. I could not pay my bills, I was down in dumps and the last two years for me have been very difficult and I have been struggling. My credit is mess up because of my situation..I took it last week and pass. Like you I was studying, but I personally think my problem was in test taking strageties,. You can read all the books in the world cover to cover, bur if you don't know what the question is asking you, you won't know how to answer the question. I read saunders, lippincott, mosby and did ATI..The first time I took test and failed at 85 questions, the second time I failed at 265 and the third time I ran out of time after 200 questions and passed. The one thing I have learned in all of this that no one thought me is 1. take you time when are doing and answering the question, I read the question 2 or 3 times. Then I eliminated the two I knew for sure was wrong. Then I applied ABC, if that did not work I used the nursing process, if the nursing process did not work I used Maslow and it all failed, I thought about the each siuation, which one would keep the patient safe and alive. I feel u have the knowedge, your problem is how you are answering the question, read the test taking techinques and practice, practice them. I read them everyday before I took the exam. This is my advice to you..Also, when I practiced questions at home i would practice like if I am taking the actually exam.
pS..one more important factor, when everything else failed, I called on God and asked him to help me pick the right answer..I took as many breaks as I need.. I took my first break around 30 questions. Do what you have to do to help yourself. In the exam you are in control and God. don't let the time or the number of questions or worry about anyone leaving before u..You take you time.. Good Luck!!!..you will make it
Go read my thread, Finally passed nclex-rn---3rd attempt by ER-RN2009. I would like to speak with you on how and what I did to successfully pass. Please know that you are smart & you do know this information. Obviously, you are close to passing since you are getting all 265 questions. Hang in there, YOU WILL PASS.
Thank you so much, I read your blog and it was so inspirational and I appreciate all the help anyone has to offer. It just feels so good to talk with people that been in your shoes and know the heartache and struggle there is with becoming successful. I once heard from someone that if a person has to retake boards more than once than it's obviously their not getting it. That hurts to hear but than you look at others that been there and successfully got their license just makes you wanna work even harded. This site is truely a blessing (truely). My faith was so low after failing so many times but when I chat with such inspirational people I feel so good.
Do Not listen to what anybody says about not knowing the information. YOU DO!! A big part of my problem were situations that I put myself in, ie, moving, building, ect. and the other part was test taking! I stink when it comes to tests. My 3rd time, after having my self-esteem at an all time low, I just settled in, calmed down (the best I could) and told myself, "Take your time, you know this." I didn't do alot of practice questions, not saying you shouldn't, I just focused on the hows and whys, plus tons of random facts from this site. I really think I got more from the random facts than anything... I really saw alot of these random facts on my test..REALLY!! Just log in and start taking notes. I seemed to cover alot more information, rather than going thru the books by systems... I would get bogged down in the individual systems and information. Take a few days and gather your thoughts and then study at your pace and DO NOT schedule until YOU'RE ready. Now bare in mind that you're not ever gonna feel 100% ready, but once you feel that you've went over everything that you scored low in, go take it!! And have confidence in yourself, you made it thru nursing school, YOU CAN MAKE IT THRU THIS, TOO!! Keep in touch, and any way that I can help, please let me know!! I honestly don't mind....I wouldn't have made it thru if I didn't have help!! Wishing you much success!!!
Let me tell you something. I took it 10x. I lost my mother and my brother last year. I am about to give up but God is good He is taking care of us. Do not look down on yourself. I can relate on what you said regarding your children. I was like that too. But let me tell you, just study harder and pray, pray, pray. It really works. Relax in between.
Get this book NCLEX-RN in a flash by R. A. Gapuz. they have it at amazon.com. they also have it at barnes and noble but they always run out of stock. Then go to his website he has some pointers there too www.ragapuzreview.com That's the only book I used while I prepare for the 10th time and it worked. Try it, it might help you too.
Never give up. remember the verse in the bible Mark 11:24 "For this reason I say to you, Whatever you make a request for in prayer, have faith that it has been given to you, and you will have it."
:wink2:
