Failed 2nd Exam in Anatomy , End of the World?

Published

As of right now I am a pre-nursing student working on getting into the RN program at my school. As you all may know getting into any nursing program now is competitive and this semester I started working on my pre-requisites. I started of Anatomy with a bang as I was the only person in my class to get an A on our first exam. We took our second exam last week and everything went to pieces. Two weeks leading up to the exam my insomnia got really bad and I was sleeping little to nothing the week of the exam I had gotten 6 hours of sleep in total for the entire week. To top it off I lost my lecture notes 2 days before the exam. I just got the exam results back and as the title of this post says I failed it. A big fat F failed it. I'm devastated, and extremely ashamed as my professor had praised me so highly. Do you think there is any way I can turn this grade around? Or should I just drop the course now and try again next semester? The problem with this is that it will set me back a year and not only that I will have to pay out of pocket for the course as I am not receiving financial aid next semester. There are 2 more exams after this and the final with some quizzes thrown in. If you were in my shoes what would you do? I don't want this to be the end but I just feel so lost and upset.

I am so sorry you failed your exam! I also did really well on my first exam (I got an 89 with the class average of 64), but not so well on the second. Granted I am still VERY anxiously awaiting my results as I check my email every 5 minutes BUT I know I did not do as well as the first. My biggest problem is the first lab practical.. I just know I totally butchered that one (still waiting on those results too). Which will bring my grade down 4 points overall! I was busting my ass night and day to make sure I make all A's so the practical is detrimental! Anyway, all I can say is you have no choice but to study your butt off and do extremely well on the other exams - that is what I am telling myself. Keep your head up (unless it's in the books :roflmao: ) and fight your way back up!!!

Also, this may sound dumb but attitude is everything. You need to tell yourself that you are better than this and that nothing can hold you back. It really doesn't help me out a lot.

I do agree with the PP. You still have a few more exams to take, so do as best as you can and I am sure you will at least bring up your average to a B. However, not sure of your teacher's assessment criteria, she may drop the lowest exam score, which has been a trend no matter where I looked. So, you may ask her/him about that.

I failed my first lab exam this semester with a 67. I was pretty mad at myself. I've managed to bring my grade up to an A though, so it totally can be done.

Good luck!

I know you feel defeated, but if were you I wouldn't give up. I think you have a chance, talk with your DR about the insomnia see if there is anything they can do. And as mentioned above, Attitude is everything, stay focused and positive. You can do it, I know it isn't easy especially with the praise from your teacher. It will be okay though, just hang in there!

You still have two more exams, some quizzes and the final to bring your grade up. So no, one F will not hurt you. Don't beat yourself up just because you failed one exam. Just believe in yourself and the fact that you can still do well in the class. I remembered when I was in the first term of my LVN Program I got a 76 on three exams consecutively and I was discouraged by that so I changed my study habits and I even went the extra mile to getting my study guide done and keeping track of it. My exam scores started to go up from there and I ended up with an 88 mainly due to getting an A on the final which in some nursing programs LVN or RN is the HESI. So again, don't give up because of one F just keep studying hard and you will get there.

Every science course I took it seemed without fail I would completely bomb at least one (sometimes two) exam/quiz/practical. Every time that happened it would motivate me to try harder & I did. I recovered from those bombed out sidesteps every time. Don't quit.
