failed the NCLEX twice and feeling like a failure :(

Published

I just found out that I have failed the NCLEX... for the second time.. I'm completely devestated.... Both times my exam went 265 questions and my results have said "near the passing score".. I've read/studied from 6 different review books including kaplan/saunders etc and I took an ERI review course including all the ERI online practice tests. I've just about given up and I'm so disappointed in myself. Every one of my friends from school has passed and started working already. And on top of that everyone at work is going to know I failed again bec I'll still be working as an aide. I'm so embarrassed.. Does anyone have any advice for me? I don't know what to do now......:bluecry1:

Hey everyone! Thank you for all your advice and encouragement! I took the week off from studying and just relaxed and went to work. Suprisingly my co-workers are very supportive and didnt seem to think any less of me because of my failure. I guess it was just all in my head that people will be thinking this and that.. But being at work helps me focus and realize how badly I want to work to be a nurse! I read all your suggestions and I just registered for the NCSBN online review course for the next 5 weeks. Im going to start taking my practice tests every day for a few hours and hopefully this will help me out! 45 days and counting till I pass my next exam! Thanks everyone :nurse:

I love your positive outlook. If you have not already looked on the NCLEX discussion forum, I would read the random facts thread too. Not to mention the infection control thread and obscure diseases threads ( last 2 are sometimes hard to find, but worth the search ). Keep up the wonderful outlook and you will be sucessful in 45 days!

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!

Are you able to speak with an instuctor or guidance counselor? They may have alternatives you have not thought of.....Do you have test anxiety?

What does this mean for you now? Will you be able to test again

Hey all - I took the NCLEX RN for the second time and think I failed this time also. I went all the way to 265 with a lot of meds which I never heard of, a lot of SATA, a lot of infection control and priority. Last time I went to 262 and failed also. Is it possible to pass at 265 on the second try?

The number of questions is just a number and has no bearing of if you pass or fail. Be patient and wait for the results. Good luck.:D

:bow:There is hope...like a few people said take HURST i took the NCLEX 3 times and 2 waiting to take it again this year. Marlene's southeren voice rings in ur head that's what make u remember the answers also she breaks it down..nothing against anyone else's study method, but i think you should do Hurst. Online is $300 and live is $350, but online is the same as doing it live because thats all they do is play the videos in class. Also online you can always go back are review on ur one time. GOOD LUCK!! We will be nurses..soon.

good luck!!!! Your very lucky to have supportive co workers !!!!:D

As the old adage goes, do 5000 practice questions, Saunders or otherwise. Take the Kaplan course for extra measure (they'll reimburse yuor expense if you don't pass). Kaplan advised taking an extra minute for the first 10 questions as they said that would put you above the baseline for correct answers. So I asked myself, why just one extra minute? So I took 3-4 min on each question (helped give me more time on each question to reject the ones that couldn't be the write answers) and it shut off at 75. And take more time off to study. (Seems like those who don't pass are working, still going to school and tending to family.) Just a few thoughts. May God bless your efforts.

I failed the test three times so I know the feeling....>>.I'm hear to tell you I tried all those books and stuff>>>didn't help>>> My success was possible from the HURST REVIEW program....I took it online>>>that lady with the southern drawl really breaks things down to extremely basic...

Take Hurst Review>>>don't worry about others that passed..stay focused on your success....I know it's easier said but you are hearing from someone that was in your shoes 3 times....

Make it happy...no more pity parties.....DO IT.!!!!!!!!!1

I gotta say, I loved Hurst Review. I borrowed the materials from someone that did Kaplan and I kept thinking "So glad I went with Hurst." Worth every penny (of course....I just took the exam today and don't know yet whether I passed).

I kept hearing her say "That's not nice. You won't get a license for that" when I would read wrong answers. She is in my head now.

i just took the NCLEX and found out that I passed...the BEST advice i can give you regarding the NCLEX is ONLY study 3-4 hours a day..nothing more..nothing less...Take at least one day off each week to clear your head...do something fun...you're studying for a nursing test..not on death row for god's sake! you CAN do it! just have all the confidence in yourself...i'm assuming it would be hard going into the third test not feeling confident but repeat over and over "I CAN DO THIS! I HAVE NO REGRETS I STUDIED AS MUCH AS I COULD AND THAT'S ALL I CAN DO" you're going to do amazing...just repeat "i can pass" each and every day...good luck!!!!! :)

I know I'm going to have a tough time with the NCLEX. I suffer from text anxiety and its haunted me for years.

Everyone I talked to have all said, to go out and do something fun the day before the boards. "You'll know the material, you just need to relax." and "go in there and make sure you pick the best answer that covers care and being beneficial to the patient."

With that being said, Jan is fast approaching (graduate then) and I'm already getting the butterflies. BUT a healthy dose of beer and a good friend clears is right up!!!!!! :p
