Failed the HESI exam again!!!

Published

OK...I've done it again. On the first HESI test I made 895, then I made 869. and now the third time around I made a 779.

I'm at the end of my wits. I studied hardier for the last one and made worst.

There's 13 out of 16 that didn't pass this last time. We started with 26 out of 58 not passing the first time. So now the ones of us left have to take a directive study this semester. I just don't know what else to do. I have studied the Saunders book, HESI book and a few others and done the CDs for all of them.

I think I am becoming dumber with each test I take and definitely becoming more frustrated. If I would of known that I would make it all the way through nursing school, pass all my classes, walk at graduation, only to be stopped by this exit exam...I would of never went into nursing.... I am stuck. At least if I would of failed a class I could of jumped into the LVN program and worked my way up. But I've passed everything, so there's nowhere to go. They won't give us our diplomas until we pass the test. At least if I got that I could become a pharmaceutical rep. But NO, I just have to keep taking this dang test over and over.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just wondering if anyone knew someone that has experienced this or if anyone has any suggestions for studying tips. My mind is blown.

next time you are scheduled to take a test, take about 3 days before to relax and not think of anything...when you go in to take your test be as calm as you can be,, i know that is easier said than done but you are stressing yourself out because of the importance given this test

Thanks all for the suggestions...well I took Hesi for the 5th time and passed with a 950. Went and took State Boards and passed. It is unbelievable the importance the school put on the HESI when NCLEX was totally different and easier. So to all of you out there that are having trouble with HESI...hang in there you can do it. Good LUCK!!!

i failed the hesi 3 times and have one more time. i did the saunders cd, read and did the hesi cd, i am re doing the saunders cd and going thru the saunders book again. i thought about doing kaplen but will stick with saunders. i take the 4th 13 june 06. any input or suggestions

I used my Hesi book...but since it doesn't have everything in it...also used the Saunders to go over the areas I was weak in...spent lots of time doing questions from Saunders CD...I hated the HESI CD...so didn't use it. Also had a NCLEX 3000 CD i used. Since our last test was a surprise and I didn't study for 2 weeks before...Maybe try not to overstudy...that seemed to be my problem in the past...would study right up until the test...We had a lady from school that was a therapist come in and teach us relaxation/visualization techniques to use during the test... Good LUCK!!!!

can someone tell me if they require you to take this HESI exam in Pennsylvania Nursing schools?

getting prepared to take 4th hesi this monday. did saunders cd read saunders book, i also did med surg on the hesi cd. plan on not doing any studying on sunday.

I am in my last semester and haven't taken my exit HESI yet. But our school requires a mid-cirricular after third semester and I did very well on it. My best advice to you is to stop thinking about what the right answer is and start thinking about what THEY would think the right answer is. I think many students over think these things. For example, I remember a question on HESI about preventing skin breakdown, the answer was apply lotion..(don't remember the options)....

I have the same experience. I made the highest score on first try, then went down. I feel the more I study the dumber I am. I have last chance in a couple of month. I am going to try kaplan review course and suzaane's plan. Please gaive suggestion. Thanks!

You sound exactly like me...I scored a 895 - 1st time and continued to get worst with each test...I used the Hesi book and Saunders book to study any areas I was particularly weak in...also did the Hesi course - they came to our school for two days and Kaplans review....I finally scored 985...I had basically given up when I took this one, but I guess because I was calmer, it helped me to do better. Good Luck! You can do it. I went on to take NCLEX and it stopped at 75....

You are not alone. There are several in my program that got great grades all the way through but could not get their degree because of the HESI.

In our program you take the HESI in the second semester and it counts for 10% of your grade and then you take it as an exit exam before you can graduate.

I have heard from numerous people that the HESI was much harder than the NCLEX.
