Failed the HESI exam again!!!

Published

OK...I've done it again. On the first HESI test I made 895, then I made 869. and now the third time around I made a 779.

I'm at the end of my wits. I studied hardier for the last one and made worst.

There's 13 out of 16 that didn't pass this last time. We started with 26 out of 58 not passing the first time. So now the ones of us left have to take a directive study this semester. I just don't know what else to do. I have studied the Saunders book, HESI book and a few others and done the CDs for all of them.

I think I am becoming dumber with each test I take and definitely becoming more frustrated. If I would of known that I would make it all the way through nursing school, pass all my classes, walk at graduation, only to be stopped by this exit exam...I would of never went into nursing.... I am stuck. At least if I would of failed a class I could of jumped into the LVN program and worked my way up. But I've passed everything, so there's nowhere to go. They won't give us our diplomas until we pass the test. At least if I got that I could become a pharmaceutical rep. But NO, I just have to keep taking this dang test over and over.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just wondering if anyone knew someone that has experienced this or if anyone has any suggestions for studying tips. My mind is blown.

I wish I would of went to that school. I'm assuming they did not have to pass HESI to graduate. Our wonderful school will not give us our diploma or send the paperwork to NCLEX so we could test until we pass HESI. They believe HESI is the greatest indicator that a person will pass NCLEX. So we're all screwed.

I start my directive study Wed and get to take the HESI again in 8 weeks. I am so PO'd at the whole situation, don't know how I will be able to get back into the study mode.

Take heart. They do make getting through Nursing school and out of it hard because they are trying to keep up the standard of the profession. You are very capable because getting through Nursing School is no walk through the park. I went to school with two ladies who dropped Nursing classes just before deadlines to avoid failing then in the last semester one had failed peds at a prior time and failed again in our final semester and the other failed both peds and ms-3. Imagine the agony of going through this expensive private school and all those toture to fail at the end. At least your only battle is the HESI. Do you have any friends that already passed it? Two people in my study group faile the ATI which was our exit exam and immediately after we got out I sat with them and went over the printouts and we re-visited why they got what they got wrong. This was helpful and they passed it the second time. You have eaten the entire cow and remain only with the tail. You can do this. It's difficult to look at it that way but it's the truth. Anyone that gets through nursing school is no fool! I suggest you relax until Wednesday then take the review class one day at a time. I'll keep you in prayer.

Johari,

Thanks for the confidence!

I know I will make it through this. I may be 100 by the time I pass it, but I know I can do it. LOL

oh i feel your pain!!! :o our school has now started this ati crap that basically does the same thing! we take it once, and are compared to others nationally, not even individually, and if we don't pass it the first time you have one more shot and you're done!! no degree, nothing! then, wait a year to retake that and finish a whole 5 weeks!

schools now are doing this for their own benefit.... to make their pass rate look better! if they get ya out now if they think you wont pass...they don't have to put you in their pass rate equation! even though in pa, you can take the nclex as many times as you can pay for it!

nice huh?? hang in there...

That makes me nervous now. Our school drops us out of the program, if we do not pass the HESI. They only give us 1 chance. There were plenty of people last year that failed the HESI and could not proceed. They had to wait another year to get back into the program. The grades that you make and your avarage do not matter here when you take the HESI. You can make all A's through the nursing program, but if you fail that test, you are out!:crying2:

Awww, man. I hope you are able to find out what exactly can help you to pass the HESI. My prof has actually done a compiled list of learning objectives on the things that we most need for the HESI. It's overwhelming, but I'm pretty sure it'll work. Why don't you try to compile all of your summary and review questions that you can think of and/or of the questions you've seen the past times you've taken the HESI?

I'm sure this could be pretty helpful. Are you gonna be able to take it again? How many times can you take it before they tell you, "No more"? Good luck and God bless you. I hope you are able to find a way to make it through this. It sucks that after all your hard work, you're being held back by a stupid exam that isn't even the NCLEX. Unbelievable.

Mave.

yeah...all this hesi and ati crap is a bit too much pressure! :o if you make it thru the program you should be able to sit for your boards...just like it use to be! maybe the instructors need to be more confident in their teaching!!

To Everyone !!

Please dont give up on your Nursing Career dreams because of all these exit tests. My school (PPCC - Colorado Springs) started out by making us take ERI testing at the end of each course. Last year we only had to take the test to see how we rank against the national average, this semester they told us that we must pass the exam with 4% above the natioinal average or we cant continue with our last bi-semester of med-surg II. I know of 14 people in my class of 38 that have to re-take the test or they cant go on. To make the matter worse the ERI tests have absolutely no correlation with the classes we have taken or with other tests we have taken. Many of the students that got scores below 4% are A-B students too and in my opinion they would all make excellent nurses. They all have a chance to take the test again but must pass by Feb 28th. I think others here that mentioned that the schools are only doing this to boost their NCLEX scores are totally correct. The sad part is that I personally dont think these tests are a good indicator of how students will do on the NCLEX. Good teaching and great nursing programs are the best predictors of success but school deans of nursing are so clueless they want to take all the shortcuts they can. At my nursing school we were told that our state board of nursing required the tests, but another student called a community college in Denver and they said they only ues the ERI to help students know what to study for the NCLEX. So far I have passed all my tests but this is so stressful for everyone. The extra time to take these tests and then retake them if you dont pass is sucking all the energy out of me when I should be studying my NCLEX books.

Good luck to everyone having trouble with these tests, please dont let this get you down, if you have gotten this far in nursing school, in my book you are the best of the best....too bad these tests make great students feel like losers...It's wrong !! :angryfire :angryfire

I'm taking a 3 day HESI review course this weekend. Basically she is just going through the HESI book with us. At the end of the chapter we answer a few questions. The questions are easy, nothing like the actual ones on the HESI Test. She has giving us some test strategies which are things we have already heard. I really don't know how much help this will be for the test...I could of done what she is telling us at home and saved $235.00.

I take the HESI again in March. So will see what happens. I definitely have been doing major studying between what they are making us go to at school and what I have been doing at home.....lot's of questions.

I'm not sure how many times the school will let us take HESI... I just know if they say we have to repeat the last semester I am out....I cannot take anymore of their bs. The ones of us left, plan to file appeals to try to get our diplomas. Nothing may come of it....but have to try.

I just took the HESI for the 4th time and got a 946! I need a 950 to pass! I read the HESI book (again) from cover to cover and the faculty shortened the amount of time between the 3rd and 4th test to 2 1/2 weeks vs. a month. I think this helped a lot in my case. Our next test is on March 22. I think they are starting to see that if they shorten the amount of time we have in between these tests then the better we do; however, I am still discouraged.

A lot of the questions I got wrong were over content that is NOT covered in the HESI book. I will pick up my Saunders NCLEX review book this time and review items I was not too confident with and then test myself.

You can invest in the HESI CD but it's not that help in terms of what you will get on the actual test.

Well I took the 4th Hesi...made an 843...needed 900. They also gave us 2 other exit exams....did fine on them...one of them said I had a 99% chance of passing NCLEX... go figure!!!

Now we're down to 5 of us...suppose to meet back next week so they can decide what to do with us next. This is all turning into a big joke...

I know - that's what the group of us felt like this morning. I'm so discouraged and not really wanting to take this test 6, 7 or 8 times. I wish I could wave a wand and know what to do to PASS this test. Also, there are a few of students that passed nursing school with Cum Laude grade point averages and STILL have not passed the HESI exam. Goes to show you that the HESI is not all it's cracked up to be.

I will be thinking about you next week! Let me know what your faculty decides to do with the group of you left. I hope they can give you ways to help you accomplish your pass scores.

I'll be marching through the next 8 days and review material and will see if I can pass the HESI exam on my 5th time!

We'll get through this!

I have just failed the hesi with an 841 and get one more chance. I am lost. Were the tests the same, or way harder? And that hesi review blows I took it twice and it did not go over anything on the test
