Failed drug test.

Idk if this is the right forum for this but l hope it is. I recently took a employment drug screen and it came back positive for benzodiazpene. I don't do any drugs and the only ones I can think of that i've taken are some flu medicines nyquil, sudafed, claritin, tyleonal pm. Idk what to do i've tried researching it and have had no luck. I called my PCP to see if they could make sense of it still waiting to hear back. I feel awful this was the only job that called me back (I'm a new grad). I know it is a false positive. What can i do. The nurse who took it had said this is the first time she has had a + and doesn't know what the next steps are.. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Ty for the reply foranemon (sorry think l spelled ur name wrong) What I was told is they didn't have enough of the sample to perform the GC/MS. So what there doing is taking another sample and there gonna completely bypass there lab and send it directly to the facility that does the GC/MS. You think christmas is frustrating this has been worse. I'm just happy that the last sample is behind me. I bought a CVS drug test last week that did the 12 panel and it came back - for everything including benzodiazepene. I have no clue what caused it to come up +.. I took some flu meds the week before and that is the only thing l can think of. Thank you all for your words of wisdom.

Valarian root will test + for benzos.....

is it possible to find it in chinese food?

I've heard that dextromethorphan (cough med) can come up positive for PCP. Weird.

Shame on them for having absolutely NO IDEA how to administer their drug testing program. It is a universal standard that a split specimen must be obtained (two separate vials in case there needs to be GC/MS testing done) and that every initial positive MUST be confirmed with GC/MS. False positives are VERY common when the test strips or other initial testing is used. Relax. If you have not used drugs, the GC/MS will be negative...regardless of any other test.

Well what ended up happening was they did do a split sample and ran both samples and didn't hav eneough to do the GC and had to give me another test which came back neg and now l have job sigining papers tomorrow. I was lucky it all worked out for the best.

Glad things worked out for you in the end. I hope this was a one-time fluke for this company and you enjoy your experience!

Congratulations! too bad you had to be put through the ringer. It is very likely that they are in violation of their "Drug Free Workplace" program (defined by state and federal laws) and could lose their Worker's Compensation premium discount (which is the reward for a drug free workplace program).
