Failed drug test.

Idk if this is the right forum for this but l hope it is. I recently took a employment drug screen and it came back positive for benzodiazpene. I don't do any drugs and the only ones I can think of that i've taken are some flu medicines nyquil, sudafed, claritin, tyleonal pm. Idk what to do i've tried researching it and have had no luck. I called my PCP to see if they could make sense of it still waiting to hear back. I feel awful this was the only job that called me back (I'm a new grad). I know it is a false positive. What can i do. The nurse who took it had said this is the first time she has had a + and doesn't know what the next steps are.. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

well she gave me her email and I emailed her a bunch of links. She told me she needs to contact HR and find out what there protocol is..... I've never done benzos but after this experience I feel like I need one for anxiety. I'm so worked up and my wife is upset to.

This happened to me too...I have never taken a benzo and somehow I turned up positive for them. They should send your results to the lab for further testing, and you'll be able to breathe when they come back negative :w00t:

What kind of drug screen was this, where they just used a dip stick of some kind. Those tests are unreliable and any of those meds you used could cause positive results for pcp, cocaine, etc. They should send it out to a lab for further testing and everything should be fine.

Sorry this has happened to you.

Usually if you turn up positive for a drug they run a confirmation test. If it is still positive they sometimes might do ( i'm not 100% sure) gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy to verify. GC/MS should put all false notions to rest.

TY... its a little frustrating... the nurse who took the sample is knew at this so she didn't know exactly what needed to be done next. I guess the sample they took they split up into two vials.. sent the first out and came back + sent the 2nd vial back same sample came back +. She's supposed to get back to me and let me know what our next step is. I'm just so stressed. I will have to wait and hear back from the health nurse. I spoke with her today and she said that she is in meetings all day.. should l wait to hear back from her and if l don't hear back by monday call or should l bug her and call tomorrow?

I am soory that was happend with you...... again please be SURE that wasn't any drugs that could turn + your test.

The list of medications that can cause false positive drug tests is very lengthy, and it includes many common medications and herbal remedies that you can buy without a prescription. Unless you take nothing at all, there is no way to avoid everything that could possibly cause a false positive reading on a drug test.

TY orca l was thinking the same thing but couldn't articulate it nicely...

WOW!! If there are soo many problems with this, why do they spend millions of dollars doing these? As for me it has been a nightmare.

what is your story bigbee48?

I had a false positive once, and I was "exonerated" by gas chromatography. It's the definitive test for drug screens. I suspect employers are resistant towards sending off for this kind of test because it's expensive. I had been on an antibiotic that can show a false positive for cocaine (according to what the lab people told me).
