Failed ANCC FNP certification exam

Trying to pick myself up after failing ANCC FNP certification exam and figure what to do now. I am already planning to re-take but do not know how to better prepare myself. I took the Fitzgerald CDs review twice as well as read through it a 3rd time. Looked through an assessment book, pharm and reviewed Leik's book. I am working on test taking strategies but would really like to talk to anyone who has failed and what they did to pass. Thanks.

I am testing next week. My last course used the Fitzgerald review book and we were tested over it. I signed up for her live review that started today through Tuesday. We spent 5 hours listening to a speaker read to us word for word from the hand out book. It was painful. The hotel was beyond horrible and we left after lunch and drove 4 hours home. Very, very disappointed. I note that I don't have access to the online material or practice tests that were listed in the book. This was a huge waste of time and money.

I'm sorry your experience wasn't the same as mine. Take it Dr Fitzgerald was not the presenter? She made it very interesting - and added a lot to the book outline. Our hotel was fantastic - and not one I could afford to stay at otherwise (Boston Back Bay area). I don't think you can access the online review until after you complete the live review - and if you don't stay for it ... not sure you can access it? I'd call Fitzgerald Health Education Associates - and tell them about your experience.

Body system a day - review it thoroughly. Then start answering questions on that system. Go back and review what you didn't understand - answer questions again. On to the next system. Don't waste time reviewing systems that you have a good knowledge base on -- review the ones you don't know! ANCC has a lot on leadership and professional issues - research, risk management, etc. You probably won't find that in your class texts. I used Fitzgerald - and her review and review book covers it pretty well. Also looked through Leik and and used BoardVitals as a question bank. If you haven't taken a live or online review - that might be in your best interest. I did Fitzgerald, but Hollier, Leik and Barkley all have review programs. Good luck! You can do this!!

Hi! I graduated in May, did APEA review live, and have done it twice online. I've read Leik's book, some of Fitzgerald and studied the Blunt books. I've done question apps, quizzes, and passed the APEA predictor exam. I've failed AANP twice by 7 points and have applied for ANCC. I'm a nervous wreck and my job is on the line!

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice. So glad I've found this thread.

I have a great study guide for JNC-7 (http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/files/docs/...es/phycard.pdf). I used it in school and clinical. I can not find anything similar for JNC-8. The JNC-8 is not fully accepted as of yet because it was a "meta analysis" not a an experimental model research. Can anyone advise RE: JNC-7 or 8 on the exams and a good study aid for JNC-8 it would be appreciated.

Help! failed AANP 2x. The 2nd time my score was 497! Because my background is mostly administrative and not floor nursing, I was told that ANCC would fit me better. Wondering if there is anyone out there that took AANP2x then took ANCC and passed.

Ok. I failed the AANP twice, I think I'm going to take the ANCC. But I can't get up the confidence to sign up. Any tips or suggestions?

Me as well. Not sure if I want to wait until 1/2017 to retake AANP or go ahead and do the ANCC. Did you do this already?

JNC8 in a nutshell:

start meds if BP exceeds: 140/90 for age

Initial choices: African American: thiazides or CCB. All other races: thiazides or CCB or ACE or ARB.

ACE and ARB works very well in younger, Caucasian males.

HCTZ gives about a drop of 2-8 points in BP.

CCB gives a drops of 8+ points in BP.

Hope this helps.

Thank you... I agree that we need to hear what to study from those taking the test successful and not (those who post after failing are real champions as far as I am concerned - It has to be hard ant they still want to help others). I also believe study tips and tricks related to specific topics and diseases is also high value i.e. Murmurs, Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, JNC 7/8, Asthma etc also tips on Professional Issues. We represent many programs, many books and many review courses. If we put up the best of the best "tips & tricks" and web sites along with advice from candidates who have previously taken the exam it may lead to many, many more candidates being successful. Again ... Thanks,

The Board Vitals web site recommends purchasing the 2 FNP ANCC Practice Tests along with their service. Can anyone provide a direct link to the exams? The site is not easy to navigate. Thanks in advance....

"The ANCC offers a wealth of NP certification exam prep materials including plenty of practice test questions. The best thing about the ANCC's test prep resources? They come straight from the source. You can be assured the practice materials you will receive are accurate and relevant to the exam as they are produced by the test makers themselves.

Sets of practice questions are offered for multiple specialties. Sets include anywhere from 150 to 200 practice questions and range in price from $109 to $125. Questions may be accessed online for 90 days after purchase. The ANCC also offers a few brief, 25 question practice exams, free on its website. "
