Trying to pick myself up after failing ANCC FNP certification exam and figure what to do now. I am already planning to re-take but do not know how to better prepare myself. I took the Fitzgerald CDs review twice as well as read through it a 3rd time. Looked through an assessment book, pharm and reviewed Leik's book. I am working on test taking strategies but would really like to talk to anyone who has failed and what they did to pass. Thanks.

Sorry to hear u didn't pass. If I were you, I would focus on weak content areas first and then test taking strategies. Review systems like this is your first time & then practice questions a lot, review rationales for all questions. Find a study partner, may be that helps.

Anyone interested in forming a study group for the FNP certification exam? OR
Is anyone part of a group that I can join (NY city area/Northern NJ area/ via Skype)?
If so, I can be contacted via email @ [email protected]
ANCC has a study group Family Nurse Practitioner Study Group - American Nurses Credentialing Center - ANCC, with space for 30 members, but only 3 people have joined so far. It's supposed to start in May and end in July of 2012. If no one else joins, I fear they'll cancel the study group.
(If you know someone that may want to join ANCC's study group, kindly inform them , I just happened to learn about it by chance.)

Did you do any questions?? the exam is half non-clinical stuff so I know Fitzgerald Review book doesn't cover that...Here ethical CD's portion or CDS yes, but not to many questions... Leik has a massive packet of nonclinical paperwork updated from 2010 or 2011 that I think she may sell outside of her review class... She's on schedules

I am in desperate need of help! I have failed the AANP cert exam twice now and the ANCC exam once. I have had the Ms. Hollier prep classes twice or maybe three times now as well as other books and study materials. In my everyday life I work as a nurse with three PAs and a Dr., they all say that I know what I am doing because they let me help them as if I were a FNP. I know I know it but, GOD HELP ME, I cannot pass the cert. exam!!!
Please, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Pleas hlep ASAP!!!
I have been offered a wonderful FNP job if I can pass my test! Please help and please pray!

Hi,
Today in the morning, i took the ANCC FNP cer. and unfortunately, I also failed...
Middle of my test, I knew that this is not what I expected..
There were a lot of health care delivery, communication, and role theory.
Some of the questions, i really had NO clue at all what the questions saying.
also, I've got many questions regarding like "if you have a patient with ..and refer or treat?"
those kinds of questions...
I am so so depressed now. I also have a waiting job which I really wish to work as FNP.
Thankfully, the job told me that they will give me a second chance.
I already submitted my AANP FNP application about 3 weeks ago. I am expected to receive the approval letter soon.
Therefore, I am planning to take AANP FNP cert. in the middle of July.
Is there any suggestion or recommendation for me?

I took ancc (FNP) back in September 2012. I attended the live Fitzgerald and APEA review course. I would read over Leik on my iPad while waiting in line, between patients at clinical, and slow nights at work.
One thing you MUST remember. When you take the test, leave anxiety at the door (I know easier said than done), you have done clinical, research projects, read journals, and practice thru evidence based. Study and test...
Best wishes, let me know if there is anything you need. Good luck an keep us posted!

Sorry you failed but know you can do it. I didn't think I would pass but I did after one try. I took the AANP because its all clinical. How did I study? I took Fitzgerald review and bought every practice book I could find. I found that I loved the Leik book the best. I knew what I needed to focus on and that's what I studied.
Taking the test you have to leave anxiety at the door.
Before you start your test I wrote down some mnemonics for the stuff I could remember. Such as anemias and cranial nerves.
Don't read into the questions just use the information that is given its pretty basic.

I promised I would post here after I took my exam!!
I took the ANCC FNP exam this past Tuesday; June 4th and PASSED FIRST ATTEMPT!! Man; it was mainly a weird hodgepodge of everything. Approximately 25% of it were straight medical/clinical questions which with the Fitzgerald book or Leik book would help 100%. The remainder (75%) was all over the place with most of it being culture and ethics stuff.
Some things that I remember occurring pretty frequently;
Lot of health care reimbursement, Medicare, Medicaid stuff
Lot of adolescent
Lot of older adult questions
and mainly how to communicate.
How I prepared:
Fitzgerald Book
Leik Book (which I really spent the majority of my time with) I liked it because it was straight forward!
The ANCC review book (which can be purchased on their website)
The ANCC review question bank (150 questions in 2- 75 question tests) 99$ on their website...its ok but not that great
The website: FamilyNPPrep.com (Tons of ethical, cultural and weird ANCC type questions with feedback) These tests are excellent!!! but make sure you select the FNP-BC test banks. They are PRETTY EXPENSIVE though...approx 12.00 per 100 test.
My suggestions to help you pass??
Study the Leik and Fitzgerald books (mainly Leik);
Then buy the familyNPPrep tests and the ANCC website test bank and spend 2-3 weeks reviewing all the cultural, ethical and healthcare policy questions....I would recommend spending a large amount of time with ethics (beneficence, non-malfeasance, veracity, transference, counter-transference, (and stats stuff)specificity etc..
You will do well if you know your ethics and priorities...etc
