Trying to pick myself up after failing ANCC FNP certification exam and figure what to do now. I am already planning to re-take but do not know how to better prepare myself. I took the Fitzgerald CDs review twice as well as read through it a 3rd time. Looked through an assessment book, pharm and reviewed Leik's book. I am working on test taking strategies but would really like to talk to anyone who has failed and what they did to pass. Thanks.

I desperately need help!!!!! Have taken both tests twice and missed them each within 5 points. I need a study buddy. Anyone interested. I'm so depressed and discouraged. I need help please!!!!!!!!

Hi, Sorry to hear that you have taking both exams but have not passed but you were soooo close and I think that tells how much you studied and prepared for the exams. I graduated in March 2015, took the ANCC FNP exam in May but didn't pass. I also took the AANP exam in June but failed by 9 points. I was very dissapointed and discouraged as well, and have been going over the whole scenerio, thinking of what I didn't do right and what I should have done differently. Looking back, though unfortunate, I think I focused so much on studying but did a little or noting of question banks. This time, I think I'm going to spend less time studying, only reviewing materials that aren't familier but focus more on doing questions. I have recently reapply to retake the ANCC and have recieved my approval. If don't mind me asking, how have you been studying and what type of study materials have you used?

@susanne1234,

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't pass. You are very close to passing, just need to pay attention to your areas of weakness. What did you use to study for the exam?

I'm studying to take the ANCC at the end of August. You can email me at [email protected] if you want to discuss and compare the study strategies.

Best of luck! You got this!

I am new to this blog but I appreciate everyone for sharing their stories which is both inspiring and enlightening. I am interested in finding a study partner for the ANCC FNP exam. Please let me know if you are interested in a "Skype-study partner." Congratulations to those who passed the exam and good luck to those who are preparing to take the exam.

Congratulations on passing the ANCC Exam and thanks for sharing insight on the exam. I took it in June, unfortunately, I did'nt pass it. I attended Fitz live review, bought her book as well as cds. I also read Leik review book and did all over 640 questions. I recieved my approval to test this week and now very anxious/nervouse. I read your post about www.NHInstitute.com and will be purchasing this review as soon I as can. I would really like to chat with you regarding eyour study tips and insight. Thanks

I took the AANP last week failed it after 3 months of study time and the Fitz review... I also studied the Leik book from front to back. I found the questions very difficult and confusing and tricky. I have decided to take the ANCC. But I know all the JNC 8 and current asthma and BP guidelines has this test been updated or do I need to study JNC 7 and old hypertensive guidelines?

I promised myself I would post on here after I took my boards since I did use a lot of these posts as guidance and motivation. Since I just recently took both the ANCC and AANP I thought I could help everyone out who was studying……

First of all they are TOTALLY DIFFERENT exams so you need to pick early, which one you want to study for and guide your studying based around the AANP or ANCC. Personally I thought the ANCC was much much harder than the AANP. So for those of you who are unsure, pick AANP!!!

This is what I did for the AANP exam which helped me out so much and I wanted to let you all know what worked and Ill rate them from which was the most helpful.

1) 10/10 Leik Book – this is your go to guide. Make sure you read the first few chapters early on. Chapter 1 fast facts” is verbatim on what is on the AANP exam. If you go through all 46 points and really learn what she says to study you will pass. I used this as my outline and I absolutely would say that I would have been lost without it. Also all her fast facts” or exam tips” and clinical tips” – know these!!

2) 9/10 Hollier Book – Certification Practice questions – I used about 6 different test banks to study and this book had the questions that were MOST LIKE the AANP questions , especially the adult” test was exactly what types of topics/questions that were being asked. This is also a MUST HAVE.

3) As for the rest of my studying I did a Fitzgerald "in person" review, listened to her CDs, bought her review book and used her test bank online, to be 100% honest it was my least favorite review for the ANCC and AANP. However the one positive was that it worked as a guidance on what topics to study and it was the only review that had the updated JNC8 and ATP4 but thats really all I used it for. I absolutely wasted too much time reading cover to cover of her 2 review books to only realize it was way too detailed for the exams. Also, don't focus much on Fitzgerald if you are taking the ANCC, it had only 1 chapter on professional issues” when the ANCC seemed to be non-clinical in my mind. ANCC expects you to know everything about professional issues and the code of ethics ext.

4) I also used a test bank my school provided which had qts and explanations. I suggest if you want to do test qts make sure you find ones that give you the rational. Some of the Fitzgerald test banks don't have that. I downloaded the Leik qt app and I would do those during lunch break or when I had down time.

Again for AANP Leik will do a good job summing it all up so that you study the most important of each topic. Then use Hollier to test your knowledge of what you learned in Leik. Its always good to use more than one resource and these two are the BEST!!

Study your murmurs!

Hope this helps!
