  1. JNC8 in a nutshell: start meds if BP exceeds: 140/90 for age Initial choices: African American: thiazides or CCB. All other races: thiazides or CCB or ACE or ARB. ACE and ARB works very well in younger, Caucasian males. HCTZ gives about a drop of 2-8 points in BP. CCB gives a drops of 8+ points in BP. Hope this helps.
  2. Hi. I really hope you have re-taken and passed. I too failed AANP this year (twice by 7 points) and was shocked/embarrassed. I had a good GPA, did review courses, been reading non-stop, and have done a lot of questions. I've applied for ANCC and am hoping for better results this time (my job depends on it). If anybody has advice on ANCC, I'll take it. If you haven't retaken: Nerves and anxiety are terrible. If you need medication, don't be ashamed. Remember that you have passed school, are prepared, and have passed a certification exam before (hello N-CLEX). And you aren't alone, others have failed too and it just makes us that much smarter (from all this excess studying!)
  3. Glad to find this thread. I'm taking ANCC next week and my nerves are shot. Seeing other's experiences and study strategies is helpful. I've done in person review, online reviews, read books, done question apps, and got an audio review.
  4. So thankful to see this post. I'm taking ANCC next week. Had an unfortunate experience with AANP in early June, so am planning for a much better result this time. I've been studying like crazy, but don't know what to expect. Thanks for the tips and congrats on passing!
  5. Congrats on your graduation!!! I'm going to follow this. Have taken AANP twice this year and failed by 7 points each time. I have done Hollier live, twice online, and have the audio review (bootleg given to me). The Hollier review seems tailored toward AANP. I've done the Leik book and read Fitzgerald. I've also done the FNP Mastery app. These seem more in line with ANCC. I will now be taking ANCC and have purchased the "pink books". The pink books and Leik are down, dirty and easy to read. Some classmates have done BoardsVitals and have passed. AANP (for me) had no pictures and was heavy on women's health, adolescents, derm, and frail elderly. The ANCC exam blueprint seems fairly divided between clinical content and reasearch/theory/culture. Hope this makes sense and is able to help you.
  6. Hi! I graduated in May, did APEA review live, and have done it twice online. I've read Leik's book, some of Fitzgerald and studied the Blunt books. I've done question apps, quizzes, and passed the APEA predictor exam. I've failed AANP twice by 7 points and have applied for ANCC. I'm a nervous wreck and my job is on the line! Thank you everyone for the helpful advice. So glad I've found this thread.
  7. urbanrn328 Would you mind sharing your study guide with me?
  8. So thankful to find this thread. I graduated in May with a 3.95, have taken 2 reviews, studied Fitz, Leik, and Hollier, but have failed AANP twice. (Each time by 7 or less points.) I've applied for ANCC
