Failed A&P twice!!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello all!

I failed A&P twice already. First time because I took it over a summer 5 week accelerated course like 2 summers ago. Bad idea!! The 2nd time this semester. This semester was a regular 12 week semester but the professor is known to be extremely hard. He is a doctor and teaches like we are pre med students. I knew the material but his tests were EXTREMELY difficult! We meet once a week for 12 weeks. I passed lab with a 86 but failed lecture and my overall grade was an F! My concern is the excelsior won't enroll me in the program because some programs will turn you away if you have repeated a science more than 1. Some will allow you 2 attempts. Does excelsior have this rule? I have had my transcripts already evaluated and all I needed to take was microbiology and retake the AP 2. Now I'm very discouraged because my choices of LPN to RN programs have narrowed a lot! Does anyone known the requirements for excelsior in regards to this matter?

You have failed A&P twice with two different professors; you say you aren't making excuses, but unless you take responsibility and makes some changes, then you are going to keep repeating your failing grades.

Regardless of the time course or the lecturer, you are ultimately responsible.

Pre-med students don't take A&P so he isn't holding you to those standards. If he is holding you to medical standards, god for him.

She passed with a B studying on her own - sounds like it may have been the professor after all.....

I wouldn't call a B on the third attempt a great success.

Ok You're Welcome. i got Studygroup 101 and THAT'S ALOT OF INFORMATION TO STUDY. i guess I might as well start studying it then if i plan on passing..

The textbook is like 2000 pages and only has a few questions after each chapter. sg101 has like 500 questions, and flashcards and the study guide part is only like 200 pages the rest is practice quizzes and the like.

Try youtube also for videos :ninja:

Congratulations DelleBrock - things are looking up since you took the studying into your own hands!! I've had some professors that were downright crazy and didn't know how to teach at all!

I did mention I believe in my original post that It was an accelerated AP class I took over a 5 week summer session. And i do have a family. My second attempted was accelerated as well and they both were horrible orofessors. However, I'll take me unsuccessful B and add it my other successes. I have 2 college degrees going for a 3rd. I rather be a C student and have sense than be an A student and be nothing but just book smart and stupid. You can leave your unsuccessful comments if you have nothing positive and constructive to say miss FNP. Good day

Thanks chrisricci. YouTube did a better job at teaching me than the professor did. just because you are a teacher doesn't mean you hold the art of teaching. You have to be able to engage and connect with your students. He just didn't make sense. 80 something % of the class failed. I guess all 80% were unsuccessful also lol

BostonFNP did offer you constructive advice and something positive, you are just choosing not to see it.

It's mister FNP. I gave you the honest best advice out there. You can't be a C student in nursing. It's not passing at the majority of schools. If you want to continue to waste your time and money and not make changes then that's fine; you will pass some and fail some. Sometimes the truth is a bitter pill to swallow but my advice was constructive.

I wasn't going to comment here, but I am with BostonFNP and Medic. There wasn't a reason to be defensive after reaching out for some advice. I would comment though, that if you were unsuccessful the first time in an accelerated course with family and all the other extras, it might not have been a sound idea to try it again. A&P is a great deal of information and some students struggle with the course of a regular 16 week semester.

I hope you don't tell your kids that a B isn't considered a great success after 3 attempts sheesh smh. Lol. Talk about crushing someone's self esteem and confidence. Luckily I'm a big girl that can take it. te y a little tact with your "advice". To be honest your "advice" wasn't even necessary. You responded after I had already posted I pasted with my "unsuccessful B". You weren't giving advice you were making a statement. A unnecessary one at that because I already updated everyone with my "unsuccessful B". any who. Lesson of the day....learn to be a bit more tactful.

Instead of letting an anonymous stranger over the internet crush your self esteem, take a moment to think about what he is saying instead of getting defensive over something that was meant to help you.

What BostonFNP is trying to get through to you is that you need to examine why you failed your earlier attempts so you can avoid those mistakes in the future. Instead of feeling hurt, heed the advice and fix the issues that caused you to fail instead of blaming it on schedules or professors. You do yourself no favors by blaming your performance on anyone but yourself. Our failures are of our own making.

The greatest lessons of my life came after I learned to take a long look at myself and examine why I wasn't getting what I wanted out of life. Then I started taking control of every aspect of my life and quit blaming others for the things I was doing wrong. It's not an easy thing to do but it's necessary if you want to be successful.

Great advice! That's exactly what I did. Took studying and teaching and learning into my own hands. Worksed out pretty great for me obviously. Should have did it 3 attempts ago. I'll let the other 80 percent of the class know to reevaluate themselves as well. Btw, professor was forced to resign. No one was passing his class for an entire year. It's funny cause I got an A in lab on both attempts. Different professor. Know the entire equation and evaluate all aspects of the situation before you draw your conclusions.
