Hello all!

I failed A&P twice already. First time because I took it over a summer 5 week accelerated course like 2 summers ago. Bad idea!! The 2nd time this semester. This semester was a regular 12 week semester but the professor is known to be extremely hard. He is a doctor and teaches like we are pre med students. I knew the material but his tests were EXTREMELY difficult! We meet once a week for 12 weeks. I passed lab with a 86 but failed lecture and my overall grade was an F! My concern is the excelsior won't enroll me in the program because some programs will turn you away if you have repeated a science more than 1. Some will allow you 2 attempts. Does excelsior have this rule? I have had my transcripts already evaluated and all I needed to take was microbiology and retake the AP 2. Now I'm very discouraged because my choices of LPN to RN programs have narrowed a lot! Does anyone known the requirements for excelsior in regards to this matter?

Sorry I don't, but I would suggest that you call them and speak to an academic advisor. They are very helpful and willing to answer our questions. Good luck!

Hi DelleBrock,

Don't get discouraged I actually had to repeat A&P after failing it and it was on my transcript twice and they took the passing score. If you are confident that you know the material maybe you can just take the Excelsior exam versus repeating the course. The best of luck.

why don't you CLEP the A&P?

Rosen there's no clep for A&P

There's no clep for anatomy

Even if there were a CLEP for A&P, the OP probably would not pass if they have already failed the class 2x....

OP, have you gotten yourself a tutor? What are your study methods? There is something going on if you are not grasping the material...probably it is best to figure that out before you begin a nursing program anyway

I passed nursing school, Nclex, and EMT state exam with no problem. It's not that I'm not capable. My lab grade was an 86. My lecture grade was an F. Like I said, first time around I took AP 2 over a 5 week summer semester which was extremely fast and hard. This time around my lecture professor was just bad. I'm not trying to make excuses for my failing grade but good professors I feel are important in taking any class. All my other science classes and pre Reqs I have passed with A's and B's. I'm very smart and have a lot of experience in the medically field....I just can't get over this damn pothole in my road. I just need to know if excelsior would take a 3rd attempt.

I don't remember if there is a limit on how many times you can take a general ed course. It sounds like you did well in the lab, maybe just the pace of the class & even the teacher could have been the problem. You might consider studying for and taking the challenge exam from EC - it didn't seem as difficult as the actual class I took years ago - focus on physiology more than anatomy. Have you talked to your advisor?

I agree. I think you should try Excelsior's A&P. Utilize the practice exams understanding all the rationales and you will be fine.

I don't think you can. You can take it through Excelsior (ECE) for 440 $. I'm studying for Micro now and a&p next. Hopefully no more than 4 weeksof study each. You can also take it through Straighterline I believe
