Facebook and employers/school

Published

So I was wondering if you delete your Facebook can employers or schools still be able to see it? I know they have their own system. Is it ok to have a personal Facebook while in nursing school or is that unprofessional ?

thanks !!

Because it's my Instagram and I can do what I want with it

I like it! lol.

I'm the same way with facebook except I literally don't drink.

I actually want people to think I'm a party girl. But at the same time I'm doing ok at work. The only thing I have to be mindful about is not to post anything related to work. They are VERY anal about it.

Okay at to make things clear I accidentally didn't hit the 'quote' button when replying. This was who that 'it's my Instagram I can do what I want' was for. This post came off rude so that was my reply. I know there are consequences to what I post. I'm not stupid I know what's on the internet is there forever. I was kind of talking about the deletion of accounts as I posted immature stuff when I was younger. I've had my account ta since I was 16. We all make mistakes and now I'm trying to fix what I've done. Sorry if I sounded like a brat to everyone.

If asking you a simple question got you so upset, all I can say is if you are going to continue to post and to ask for feedback from this community, you need to develop a much thicker skin.

I feel lucky to have been young and dumb in the years prior to social media. ;)

True That !

I currently work as a PCA, and a coworker of mine was fired b/c they were complaining about traffic on the way to work (a patient's house). this post was somehow either stumbled upon or showed to the higher ups, and it was interpreted that my coworker didn't want the job if they were willing to post a complaint. You never know how others view you or your posts, even when it seems like an innocent gripe. What you do now could hinder a future nursing job. Just post wisely.

Well my new question would be, what if you've deleted everything and it's from 4 years ago?

Ok so my husband works with a big security agency - I could tell you which one but then I'd have to kill you! Because of the Govt surveilling our computer activity we are pretty careful what we put out there. I asked him your question and he said. "If it's every been on the internet, I can find it!" still most employers won't go searching for long deleted information. They are looking for what pops up on a first inquiry - they don't want to see anything that might lead them to believe that you have drug/alcohol issues or possibly even untreated mental health issues. (There are ADA protections for people, but you would have to prove that was the reason they didn't hire you. Most hospitals have so many nurses applying these days that they can pick and choose candidates.

I have told my son two rules he should live by other than the Golden ones. The first is don't post anything on the internet you would want your mother to read and two don't do anything without asking yourself would this make my mother proud of me?

So yes delete or scrub your old accounts and start fresh - good luck to you!

I had Facebook all through nursing school and it was a way to connect with my classmates. We even had a Facebook group. I am a working nurse now and I still have my account. That being said, I am cautious about what I post. I also use a different variation of my name and tight security settings. But again, I am cautious about what I post and who I "friend".

I have an old Facebook account that I deactivated a few years ago. I highly doubt it is discoverable by any employer, present or future unless they have someone who works for Facebook to pull it up, which I think is highly unlikely. I am also not worried about employers having access to posts I deleted years ago. I'm not saying it's impossible but it's just not probable, IMO.

I did have a friend who lost a job over a Facebook post, despite security settings, because one of her "Facebook friends" turned her in to HR. SO yeah, you have to be careful what you put out there.

As with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc., all it takes is one "friend" to take a screenshot and your post or photo or tweet is saved for posterity.

Just delete everything that you think is not good for them to look at, anything that make you look unprofessional. Delete and move on. I don't think the are going to go through high tech spying on you if they find nothing wrong to begin with. It is possible I guess but i would not keep worrying. Just be careful now on what you post and be professional

Lol. They complained about traffic so that means they dont want their job??? Sheesh. I dont know anyone thats happy to be in traffic going anywhere, especially to work. Your must have been looking for a reason to get rid of someone.

Total guess here, but it was probably something like "I can't believe I have to deal with all of this traffic to get to my stupid worthless job."
