I have 30 years experience in a large teaching hospital. I memorized all the
critical elements, but I STILL HAVE TO PAY AGAIN for the cpne. Why is this
test set up to pass non-liscenced people?

I was a LPN when I took and passed the CPNE. Aside from maintaining my nerves (which I don't have to do at work because I'm not tested there), I thought being a LPN helped in many ways~ vitals, communicating with patients, giving report, looking at the MAR and giving meds, ambulation ect.. there are many things your current title can help you with- now the overdoing it with handwashing is your own deal. I think I started to tick of my CE's with how many times I would wash but I didn't care. I had to practice a lot on my husband and with my study group because you do need to practice the motions. The paperwork is entirely different too so I focused on that as well. It is a test the way EC wants you to be- You can so this, just take your time and act like a student who knows their business. Good luck!
FYI- for the person who asked, I did not take any type of workshop or extra class before the CPNE. It all depends on what resources you have. I got to study with people who had either taken he CPNE and failed or some who took the workshop and had good advice.

I failed the first time and it was definitely stress.
Second, lots of Xanax. Passed.

i sent you a pm and i want to make sure you got it....
do you actually have to take a workshop to pass, i'm out of funds! i still don't understand how they want you to calculate i/o's. for the paper work, if you have to revise a careplan, do you do it immediately and leave the patients room or do you do it during the evaluation phase? also is there any good advise for someone who hasn't the slightest clue on how to write rationals? do you take the meds in all in one cup or in seperate cups? thanks stacie

I think the stress of the CPNE is what gets most people whether they are an experienced LPN or not. Things you normally don't forget to do like washing your hands may be forgotten because of the stress. You don't need to go to a workshop to pass. I did not take any workshops and passed first time. However, if you can get to one, I would. I think if nothing else, the workshops will give you some confidence and help you brush up on some skills you may not have done in a while. Otherwise, the EPN networking Lisa mentioned is also a good idea.
So how did you do with your I/O's and your IV push? Did you ask your silent observer anything?
