Yeah I need more information here.
My old company ended a lot of memos and letter like that.
The "Your cooperation" memos were usually about recycling, putting things away and keeping personal areas clean.
The "Failure to comply" letters were usually about dress code, attendance, various other work processes.
Are you asking about which to take more seriously?
i think both phrases mean "do what i say" if you read between the lines.
i think the people who write the memos have different management styles.
i'm a pretty straight forward person and any time i've been in charge, people know if i ask for something to be done - it needs to be done. that doesn't mean i couldn't "ask" for it to be done though.
i worked somewhere once where we were expected to increase sales and our information board said "increase sales....."or be WROTE up" (yes, they used the incorrect grammar). that just ****** me off. i worked my butt off and i didn't appreciate what i saw as a threat. therefore, i would never use threats (like up to and including termination) when sending a message to other people.
what i think it says about a company who uses the more humane approach is that they have a little faith in their employees and treat them with more respect than to use threats. just my .

What has been your experience with companies who end their memos with "your cooperation would be greatly appreciated" vs "failure to comply will result in the necessary disciplnary action up to an including termination"?
Just curious.
