Greetings all!
I just joined Allnurses (I've lurked here for months though).
My names is Fay Lynn and I am an 18 year old pre-nursing student.
I am looking at attending a 4 year private university BSN program which includes a biology minor l, and I am wondering if it's a good deal... or too pricey. The school is non for profit and tuition is 20k a year. However I got an academic scholarship that brings the costs down to 10k
Per year (including my living arrangements and food).
My parents are generously paying half provided I maintain a specific gpa.
I have a job (12 dollars per hour) so I'm hoping that will offset prices if I go down to part time work. I've worked full time through pre nursing and maintained a 4.0 but I realize nursing school is different.
Is this a good deal? I am so scared of student debt/making bad choices ..
Thank you all for your time.

If I am correct after all the math you will end up paying 5K a year. To me it doesn't seems to be a bad deal. Check the school NCLEX passing rates, and if they are accredited. If it is a good school go ahead. 5K a year wont put a big debt burden on your future.

Factoring in your academic scholarship, I don't think that price is too bad at all. I did the accelerated BSN (a little under 2 years) and that alone was 50k. Mind you, this doesn't include the tuition I got for my first degree in psych!
The school is fully accredited and has a 100% NCLEX pass rate.
Thank you so much for your help:)
College is so expensive!
But I think I'm going to go ahead and attend the College. Thanks so much!

Fully accredited BSN? 100% pass rate? You get to go for 5k/year? Sounds excellent to me!!

Kudos to you for thinking about student loans and being fearful of them. If you've lurked here then you probably know that many, many students take out tens of thousands in loans without a thought- or so it seems.
From what you've described- you've found yourself a bargain of a school. Keep working hard- and congrats!
Thanks everyone for your comments :)

THe price is awesome and the 100% pass rate would make it a good deal no matter if it was double that!
Quick question though-you said you were a prenursing student. Does that mean you have some pre-requs out of the way? If so, you may not have the entire 4 years ahead of you.
I went to a school with a 96% pass rate for 4 years right out of HS. It was 33k a year without room and board. After grants and scholarships, I paid about 7k a year, and I graduated last May so not that long ago.
Keep in mind, most schools will raise tuition annually, so don't be upset if that happens. Also have your folks do the fafsa, that may get you a little more in the way of financial aid.

100% NCLEX pass rate?! I didn't think such an animal existed....unless you're talking about ONE year, in which nobody managed to fail the thing
You've described an economical and well-considered educational plan. Kudos for getting in, getting a great scholarship (State school, I assume, at that price?) and for asking these questions. :)
Good luck!

My LPN program is currently boasting a multiple-semester run of 100% passing rates in their graduating classes. I think they're up to three or four in a row now. BUT I can tell you it's because they cull the herd. I've already identified at least one classmate I'm pretty sure I won't see next semester, and another classmate is repeating the first semester because he failed it before. They don't play at this school, which is probably why the program is universally respected in the community and their graduates have no problem finding jobs.
100% pass for the last few classes and an average of 90% :)
